Gareth Pugh Ready To Make Money, Launching Full Makeup Line with MAC
>> Gareth Pugh has been edging towards the more commercial for a few seasons now, but now it sounds like he's fully come to terms with the idea. "If you as a fashion designer, you do shows but you don’t sell, it kind of becomes a bit of a vanity project," he recently said. "You know that’s kind of how I started and that’s how I got going but kind of a more mature point of view it needs to obviously translate into things that sell and that’s a new challenge for me. The two need each other, business and creativity. It’s a weird mix but you need to have that balance, I think, now. Or I need to have that balance now, so I’ve made my peace with that."
Peace made, Pugh is putting the idea into motion: MAC, which he has collaborated with in the past on runway makeup, just announced that it will globally launch a full-scale makeup collection with the designer come November. The range is expected to include multiple color products and accessories in "special packaging."
McQ Resort 2012
>> Summer's obsession with neon brights doesn't seem to be fading before Resort season, based on the collections that have previewed so far. Scuba, too, seems to have taken an early lead — we hear scuba plays a part in Alexander Wang's Resort 2012 collection; Michael Kors just showed neoprene zip dresses; and McQ (which is creative directed by Pina Ferlisi and overseen by Sarah Burton), too, is rife with scuba-inspired minidresses, bodysuits, jackets, and pants for Resort 2012. The collection also introduces McQ's first ever handbag collection — think bright bags in leather, vinyl, denim, and neoprene.
Miuccia Prada Personally Earned Over $14 Million Last Year

Last week, we learned that Prada is estimated to be worth some $15 billion; Now, thanks to a 450-page document released today by the Hong Kong Stock Exchange website, we know that Miuccia Prada earned 9.7 million euros (approx. $14.1 million) last year, while her husband and Prada CEO Patrizio Bertelli made 10 million euros (approx. $14.6 million) in the same period of time — making them "two of fashion’s best-paid stars," as WWD points out.
