>> "We were losers," Rodarte's Kate Mulleavy proclaimed to the audience who came to hear her and sister Laura get peppered with questions at FIT in New York Tuesday night. Kate was speaking of the time before she and Laura were designers, and instead were college graduates, sitting at home watching six films a day. Laura eventually picked up a waitressing gig, but as for Kate, she did, in her own words, "nothing." Later, Kate added of their current state: "Technically, we shouldn't even be up here. In a weird way, it's like we had a stream of circumstances where I look at now and think, 'This is so crazy that this happened to us.' But we're probably the least likely people that it should have happened to."

It's been almost ten years since Jean Paul Gaultier designed a pair of Roman chariot-style armchairs for VIA, and today the designer announced he's re-entering the world of home decor with French furniture brand Roche Bobois.
The Jean Paul Gaultier-designed furniture collection will be unveiled in the coming months and to promote the release, Roche Bobois has sponsored Gaultier to outfit the Elle Decoration suite in Paris. The Trocadéro district apartment, which has in the past been decorated by Maison Martin Margiela and Christian Lacroix, features a hallway completely covered in nautical strips (matching Gaultier's favorite Breton T-shirt), a jungle-themed living room that is covered in overgrown foliage, and a "flesh room" with walls painted in skin-tones and trompe l’oeil fishnet carpeting on the floors. From a $90 satchel at Topshop to Lanvin's quilted leather shoulder bag ($1900), spring's must-have handbags leave overworked embellishments behind for an entirely new pared-down minimalism.
>> Rick Owens has been in New York two times in the last seven years, by his estimation, once for his store opening in 2008 and again now for a week. He prefers to stay in a four-hour travel radius of his Paris home, and didn't travel for recent store openings in Seoul or Tokyo.
Although Owens has been staying at the Bowery Hotel since Sunday, he didn't attend the Costume Institute Gala, despite being invited, for "reasons he’d rather not discuss," WWD reports. He did hit up Mick Jagger and L'Wren Scott's after party at The Carlyle, however.
