>> Vogue's Sally Singer Emerging as Frontrunner for T Editorship —It sounds like it could be another month before the New York Times decides on or announces T's new editor, but the current likely successor is being pinpointed as Sally Singer, Vogue's fashion news and features director. Singer, who joined Vogue in 1999 from New York and is reportedly a finalist for the position, didn't respond to an email seeking comment. A Vogue spokesman said, “We are very pleased that Sally is here at Vogue, and we understand that she feels pleased to be here.” [WWD]

UPDATE: On the flipside, Grazia fashion features editor Melanie Rickey Tweets, "My source says Singer unlikely to leave US Vogue; she is 'major Vogue property' and possible [Anna Wintour] successor. T apparently less money too.." [@fashedatlarge]

Vogue Paris Takes Surprisingly Commercial Turn with May 2010 Covers

>> It's not unusual for Carine Roitfeld to throw a celebrity cover into the Vogue Paris mix every once and a while, but most covers are still captured with models, and if a celebrity is featured, it's in a very fashion-forward way.  Which is why the magazine's May 2010 issue, guest-edited by Penelope Cruz, seems an anomaly.  There are three covers, the first with Cruz, Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts, and Gwyneth Paltrow, the second capturing Cruz with Bono, and the third showing Cruz with Streep — all featured are either wearing Armani for Project (Red) tees or Gap Product (Red) tees.

In the last, Cruz has "(Red)" painted on her arm.

Already, the covers are eliciting reactions — The Cut writes, "This is a surprising, very Hollywood direction for a magazine that loves models so much." And a commenter on The Fashion Spot notes, "[This] is essentially a giant advert for Gap Product Red — they might as well have just used a reprint from the campaign if they were going to do this. The covers look like they're from a subpar issue of Vanity Fair." When Vanity Fair partnered with (Red) for their July 2007 issue — which Bono guest-edited, however, there was no mention of (Red) on the covers — only a red background.

Zac Hosts His Friends to Toast His Target Collection Before It's Available to All

Zac Posen took over NYC's New Yorker Hotel last night to celebrate his new Target collaboration with his nearest and dearest.

Zac Posen took over NYC's New Yorker Hotel last night to celebrate his new Target collaboration with his nearest and dearest. From 8 to 11 PM, he played host to a variety of pretty young things like Selma Blair, Claire Danes, and Maggie Gyllenhaal as The Like entertained a crowd busy trying to get their hands on one of his creations. Once the clock struck 11, the space converted into a 24-hours-only pop-up shop where fans of Zac can get their hands on his limited-edition line before it goes on sale in stores on the 25th. Patient Zac fans waiting to get in evidently faced a blocks-long line, and the revelry was so intense Zac himself had to seek shelter in a stairwell.

Meisel also shot the Lanvin campaign this week in New York, with Alber Elbaz overseeing another trio: Anja Rubik, Magdelena Frackowiak and Mariacarla Boscono.

Givenchy, too, is rumored to be going with a trio of female models — Ming Xi, Joan Smalls, and Mariacarla Boscono — joined by a few male models in front of Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott's lens. But the trio trend breaks there — word going around is that Meisel captured 12 girls for Balenciaga, including Finnish newcomer Kirsi Pyrhonen, and Roberto Cavalli is going solo with Gisele Bundchen shot by Mert and Marcus.
