Nick Knight's ShowStudio Invades NYFW to Live Stream Rodarte and Alexander Wang

By taking two of New York's most exclusive fashion shows live for all to see in real-time, Nick Knight has become the new king of New York Fashion Week.

Both Alexander Wang and Rodarte will be working with Knight's ShowStudio to live stream fashion week presentations—Alexander Wang at 5PM EST on Saturday February 13, and Rodarte at 12PM EST on Wednesday February 16.

The push for live broadcasts signifies a movement towards the digital future of fashion content in which consumers are invited to experience otherwise closed industry events. As Knight puts it, "I see the future of fashion weeks around the world as not only a physical schedule of shows, but also as a digital calendar of fashion experiences online, which bridge the industry and consumer experience."

Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte and Alexander Wang will undoubtedly benefit not only from ShowStuido.com's bandwidth but also from Knight's forward-thinking filmmaking. Both shows will feature Knight-produced videos on the runway, much like Alexander McQueen's film featuring Raquel Zimmermann last September.

>> Scott Sternberg definitely has a thing for Polaroid — every season, he has a different actress (Michelle Williams, Marisa Tomei) don his clothes and tell a story through a series of faded photos. Even his show invite this season depicts all of the necessary who, where, when information via a Polaroid picture.

For his Spring 2010 lookbook, he tells Style.com, “I thought it would be kind of hilarious to pair a cougar with two younger dudes and see what kind of story would come out of it.” Thus, you have Leslie Mann gallivanting on a boat in Marina del Rey, California with Dave Franco (James's little brother) and Community's Donald Glover.

Women as a gender are more complex, layered, and interesting than men, I personally find.  A beautiful girl is a beautiful girl, but a beautiful girl with brains is a lethal combination." [The Cut]

Mariacarla Boscono Had a Hand in Riccardo Tisci's Appointment at Givenchy

>> Riccardo Tisci and his friend and muse, Mariacarla Boscono, appear on one of i-D's three fresh-from-the-press Pre-Spring 2010 covers; the others feature Natasha Poly and Rihanna.

Tisci and Boscono go way back. When Tisci was first starting out, pre-Givenchy, he lost backing weeks before a show; devastated, he ended up going to a friend's embroidery factory in New Delhi.  When he returned to Milan in the Fall of 2004, two weeks before Fashion Week, it was Mariacarla who, impressed with the three bags full of hand-embroidered clothes Tisci brought back, pestered him into pulling together a show, he tells the new issue of LOVE. They cobbled together an off-schedule and technivally illegal production in an old garage, with Karen Elson in a tulle evening gown doing stunts on a BMX.  Police shut the show down, but right after he presented a follow-up collection, he got the call from Givenchy.

Would Tisci ever revive his own label? »

She wouldn't reveal who will be walking in the show, but when questioned about what pieces in Kate Moss's wardrobe she coveted, Naomi replied: "I wear a lot of her [Topshop line] . . . She has a black chiffon top that I put on with a bikini but it’s a top to wear at night, too. And I wear that a lot. I also have the cut-off denim shorts. And I have her vest. All from her Topshop collection." [Grazia]

Abbey Lee Kershaw Talks Nudity, Weight Issues, and Runway Injuries to Australian TV

Abbey Lee Kershaw was interviewed for Today Tonight, an Australian current affairs program, while on set for her third Vogue Australia cover by fashion writer Patty Huntington.

Abbey Lee Kershaw was interviewed for Today Tonight, an Australian current affairs program, while on set for her third Vogue Australia cover by fashion writer Patty Huntington.

In the video segment, which can be seen here, Kershaw discusses her refusal to wear Alexander McQueen's alien shoes for his spring runway show after tearing a ligament during a fall on the runway in New York and fainting in Paris from a too-tight corset. She hopes to do McQueen this season, but says of her distaste for towering runway heels, "health and safety regulations have to come into play at some point."

Abbey Lee, who was discovered on a beach in Australia at 15 and walked in 48 shows last September, weighs in on models' healthy eating issues, likening herself to a professional body builder and making no apologies: "An elite performer is always put under extra pressure that the rest of society can argue and might not quite understand."

Kershaw also talks nudity in fashion photography, saying it's "imperative to the expression of fashion" but that she's very comfortable saying no to a photographer. She adds she's never done anything too outrageous in front of the camera.

The denizens of the fashion department always had, I'd say, something of a superior attitude. It was also a great time for clubs. Cha Cha's was there; Leigh Bowery was emerging on the scene. Saint Martins students were heavily involved in that. You'd stay up all night creating the latest look for Taboo, not eat for days, then have a cake at Patisserie Valerie. You'd go to Paris Fashion Week and see how many shows you could get into. Pretend to be the make-up artist. That was actually a class project!" [Guardian]

Abbey Lee Kershaw on the Pressure to Be Thin and Those Alexander McQueen Shoes

>> Not all models seem to have a problem with the physical requirements of their job.

>> Not all models seem to have a problem with the physical requirements of their job. Yesterday, the Daily Beast quoted an anonymous ex-model, who apparently in her heyday walked for Tom Ford and John Galliano, on the pressure to be super skinny: "Sure, we had to be skinny. I lived on Diet Coke and apples for two years. For the couture, we had to get up at 4 am to be sewn into the clothes and there was huge pressure to be thin. But I made a million dollars by the time I was 20, I bought a town house in Manhattan and put myself through Columbia. Does that make me a victim?"

Abbey Lee Kershaw, in an interview posted today with Australian nightly television show Today Tonight, seems to feel similarly when asked what she thinks about the pressure to be ultra-thin: "That's like asking a bodybuilder how they feel about the pressures to be incredibly muscly. An elite performer is always put under some sort of extreme pressure that the rest of society can argue, might not quite understand."
