Tom Ford To Cover, Guest Edit Vogue Paris's December 2010/January 2011 Holiday Issue

>> Vogue got the exclusive on the first photos of Tom Ford's womenswear collection in its December 2010 issue, but Vogue Paris is putting Ford on its December 2010/January 2011 cover. Ford is the magazine's holiday issue guest editor this year — in past years, it's been Sofia Coppola or John Galliano — and it was rumored a couple of months ago that some of the photos Terry Richardson took at Ford's womenswear debut were an exclusive for the issue. This is not the first time Ford has appeared on the cover of an issue he's guest edited — he was flanked by Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johansson on Vanity Fair's March 2006 cover — and according to Roitfeld, this time, too, Ford will not be solo on the cover. But when asked last night at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund gala if the cover rumors were true, Wintour replied: "We never talk about our future covers, but I’m a great fan of Lady Gaga’s so ... Which Designer Is a Likely Candidate to Make Kate Middleton's Wedding Dress?

>> Kate Middleton now has the ring — Princess Diana's own engagement ring, an 18 carat sapphire surrounded by diamonds — but what about the dress?

Now that it has been officially announced that Middleton and Prince William are to wed in Spring or Summer 2011, wedding dress speculation is sure to follow. But Middleton typically goes without big designer labels, instead preferring jeans, tailored jackets from the British designer Katherine Hooker, and practical carryall bags from Longchamp.

She also favors brands like Jigsaw, the high street chain whose owners are old friends of her parents, and Issa, the London-based label known for its jersey and cotton-printed dresses. For the official engagement photos today, Middleton wore a simple blue Issa dress, and the British press are already speculating that Issa's Brazilian-born creator and owner, Daniella Helayel, will do Middleton's wedding dress, as well.

>> W is the latest fashion magazine to pull some TV time: six to eight episodes on Gossip Girl. According to a spokeswoman for the magazine, one of the show's characters will play an intern who "faces the challenge of being part of the social elite and then thrust into the ‘real world,’ where one starts out on the bottom rung of the ladder.” The episodes don't start airing until the end of January, but filming began at the W offices on Monday with a one-day shoot after set dressers stocked empty bookshelves and added art in the hallways. Staffers had the option to serve as paid extras during the shoot. [WWD]

Proenza Schouler Launches PS1 Bag in Patent with a Blair Witch-Like Short Film

>> Proenza Schouler continues their video obsession. The latest — which features nineties model Danielle Zinaich wandering around Annandale-on-Hudson, New York in a custom patent leather version of a Fall 2010 runway look, captured on a grainy vintage camcorder — marks the launch of the PS1 in patent, available exclusively on the Proenza Schouler website by the end of this month.

The patent version comes in three sizes — the PS1 Pochette ($895), PS1 Medium ($1,595), and PS1 Large ($1,995, left) — and was treated by a process specifically developed to give the leather a soft and liquid feel: layers of clear lacquer are “painted” on the skin in place of the traditional method, which involves layering plastic on top of the leather's surface. 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Winners Billy Reid, Prabal Gurung, and Eddie Borgo Come Home with Newly-Increased Cash Prizes

>> Last night, the 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners were announced, but before they could be named during the dinner gala at New York's Skylight Studios, the results were leaked on WWD's Twitter: Billy Reid won outright, and Prabal Gurung and Eddie Borgo were both named runners-up.

Style.com's Nicole Phelps wrote that the results were a bit of a surprise: "Many in the audience had pegged Gurung and Joseph Altuzarra as the front-runners." But nevermind: the prizes were even bigger this year, with Reid granted $300,000 (up from $200,000), and Borgo and Gurung each taking $100,000 (up from $50,000). "The main prize is the mentoring we provide," CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg noted of the increase, "but a little cash never hurts."

The rest of this year's finalists — Christian Cota, Robert Geller, Oliver Helden and Paul Marlow of Loden Dager, Pamela Love of Pamela Love Jewelry, Moss Lipow and Gregory Parkinson — were treated to a keynote speech by Karl Lagerfeld, who talked about how much fun Yves Saint Laurent was "before Pierre Berge" and advised: "Young goes. But good? If you're good, it may all last."
