The Word on Rodarte Spring 2010

>> Rodarte's Spring 2010 collection is scheduled to debut in about 35 minutes, and already clues to what we'll be seeing are popping up from backstage.  The hair is wrapped with netted wool (below), and the clothes are apparently the same texture, reports Grazia.  Fashionista says the theme is "organic Native American" — the invites were made of sand — and the models are all tattooed.

To keep the clothes a secret, the models all have to wear full black capes if they want to go outside, and as rumored, they're shooting a Rodarte film. Signs are everywhere backstage reading "by entering these premises you agree to be filmed for the Rodarte film."

>> Siri Tollerod, Dree Hemingway Both Go Blonder —Yesterday, Siri Tollerod turned up at Zac Posen and then again at Marc Jacobs with substantially lighter hair than the day before; looks like she's jumped on the platinum blonde bandwagon, as her agency just posted photos of her with the lighter shade.  And Dree Hemingway, too, was sporting a blonder look than usual when she turned up at the Jane Hotel to party with Another Magazine last night.

Runway Report: Marc Jacobs Spring 2010

Madonna and Jesus Luz filled the celebrity quota at the Marc Jacobs spring 2010 show, as a tardy Lady GaGa looked on from the photographer pit, having arrived 20 looks into Marc's prompt 8:05 collection start.

As Marc Jacobs told Style.com's Nicole Phelps, he's over black leather and studs and, this season, wanted to show something more individual—inspired by "a trip to the theater, the ballet the opera." Jacobs' theatrical expression of romance translated into a mash-up of deconstructed, highly textured looks—ruffles on absolutely every part of the body, satin bras over knit tops, corsets over suit jackets, voluminous harem pants, and footless ballerina tights. Models—including Jessica Stam and Suvi Koponen making spring debuts—were made up like porcelain dolls in heavily powdered faces, thick black eyeliner and tight top knots.

There were more than a few must-own pieces shown in the collection—namely the aforementioned knitwear, as well as military coats, fringed handbags, and Japanese slippers—but, as Jacobs told WWD, "It's not just about selling clothes. It's about giving people things to dream of and romanticize about." Call us grateful.

Thakoon Goes with Scuba Warriors for Spring 2009

>> Thakoon got a boost earlier this year via Michelle Obama and then again later with his prominent role in The September Issue, and although Ikram Goldman (the First Lady's unofficial style advisor) was in attendance at his Spring 2010 show again today, he's still looking for ways to save costs without compromising creativity, he told Cathy Horyn last week.  He ended up buying a large supply of crinkled jacquard and printing it in different patterns, lowering costs, and can use the fabric again for future collections.

As for compromising creativity, his Spring 2010 collection — full of his hallmark brightly-colored prints mixed and patchworked together, scuba-like pants, and printed heels done in collaboration with Giuseppe Zanotti — earned some comparisons to Balenciaga's Spring 2003 scuba collection, WWD reported a number of editors noting. But ultimately these days, it comes down to whether the pieces will sell — and the slashed and draped, Fortuny pleated dresses should have no problem in that arena.

Fun little sidenotes: Bee Shaffer attended the show, but Anna Wintour skipped for the US Open; and Thakoon's backstage passes were pins featuring a picture of his dog, Steve, on them.
