>> Matthew Williamson and Burberry are both returning to London Fashion Week for its 25th anniversary during the Spring 2010 season, and now Pringle of Scotland is, too. It's all part of the plan that Harold Tillman, chairman of the British Fashion Council, has actuated to create more buzz around London's Fashion Week, and he's not planning on stopping with just those three: “There are talks going on with other big names who we’re confident will come back. I want us to be the number-one destination for international press and buyers.”
Does that mean we could see Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, or Gareth Pugh back in London — or maybe all three? The hopes are that all the returners will bring the international press — including Anna Wintour, who usually sits out LFW — back to London with them. And the efforts might be working: Matthew Williamson's spokeswoman hinted that the designer is considering staying in London after September: “I think that the way the British Fashion Council is reworking LFW will see lots of people coming back. London has been pigeonholed as being about new, young designers and people don’t attend because they wait to see how these designers will develop. The return of some established brands will change that perception.”

>> INSIDER WIRE —After rumors over creative differences between Esteban Cortazar and Ungaro hit last week, it has been confirmed that house and designer are parting ways. The split doesn't seem amicable, however — word is that Cortazar served the label with a lawsuit, and the house expects to settle. [WWD]
Stella McCartney Test Drives Her Spring 2010 Collection
>> Stella McCartney likes to drop hints about her cruise collections — or "Spring" collections, as she calls them — by debuting them on celebrities in the weeks before the fashion press sees them. She inaugurated the idea last year with Madonna, and this year gave Cameron Diaz a white dress with black floral beading from the Spring 2010 collection, which just debuted today, to wear Friday night.
But perhaps we should watch what Stella herself wears the most for clues about her upcoming collections — the black lace jumpsuit she wore to the Costume Institute Gala May 4, which she made in the hours right before the event, is included in the Spring 2009 collection, as is the embroidered floral dress she wore to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition Opening on June 3 and the white playsuit she wore to the New Contemporary Art Center June 4.
>> INSIDER WIRE —Back in 2007 during the filming of The September Issue, Bee Shaffer said the fashion industry was just not for her and that she was thinking about law school instead, but fast forward to a post-grad trip to Venice and her plans have changed: "Right now I am looking for a job, but I also want to study acting." Apparently, she's thinking David Mamet's Atlantic Theatre Company. [FWD]
Sara Ziff's Picture Me Documentary Uncovers Sexual Assault in the Modeling World

>> Over the course of five years, Sara Ziff snuck her ex-boyfriend Ole Schell into fashion shows, shoots, and parties so that he could film "without other people realizing it." Sometimes he got thrown out, but they were able to collection hundreds of hours of footage along the way, which they edited down to produce Ziff's documentary, Picture Me, which exposes the dirty underbelly of modeling.
In it, the stories are hardly pretty. Ziff told the Guardian about a 16-year-old model who complained to her agency when a 45-year-old photographer made a pass at her: "Her agency said she should have slept with him." She captures another model talking about how weight is approached: "In castings, people have slapped my thigh, and I'm not in any sense overweight, I never have been. I've been the same weight for a long time, but they'll slap your butt and be like 'Oooh, fat' in Italian or in French. 'It's too big here.'"
>> INSIDER WIRE —The turmoil for Peter Brant continues, in both his personal and professional lives. While Brant was in Europe last week, one of his bodyguards was arrested for shoving Brant's wife, Stephanie Seymour, into a door. Brant and Seymour are in the midst of a messy divorce, and police have reportedly been called a number of times for disturbances on their property, ranging from a car windshield being smashed with a bat to a complaint from Seymour about a GPS unit placed on her car. Brant's magazine Interview has also seen a lot of upset recently; editorial director Fabien Baron and creative director Karl Templer left after a few short months, and now Baron's co-editorial director Glenn O'Brien is said to be leaving after his relationship with Brant has deteriorated. Miuccia Prada Descends, Naomi Campbell Causes Commotion at the 2009 Venice Biennale
>> The Venice Biennale contemporary arts exhibition attracted plenty of familiar fashion faces by last Thursday, but it wouldn't have been complete without an appearance by contemporary art patron Miuccia Prada, who obliged on Friday with a party courtesy of the Fondazione Prada. The opening was temporarily put off by torrential rains, but still managed to attract the likes of Marc Jacobs, Lorenzo Martone, Franca Sozzani, Carine Roitfeld, Carla Sozzani, and Dasha Zhukova.
Many of the guests then carried on to Francois Pinault's Palazzo Grassi, where Gucci Group was sponsoring a party in honor of L'Uomo Vogue's art issue. Naomi Campbell — who one observer noted was keeping a lower profile than at the Biennale in 2007 — joined the crowd, apparently making quite the entrance with boyfriend Vladislav Doronin and his bodyguards and causing one guest to joke, "Does he need them to protect himself from Naomi?"

Stella McCartney Resort 2010

For Resort 2010, Stella McCartney addressed the need for clothing to compliment the current season--not the future one. Lightweight suiting, frocks in heavier fabrics and accessories that could, essentially, "go both ways" were thought to be a perfect fit for midseason. Leave it to eco-friendly designer Stella McCartney to show us just how fashionable it is to be practical.
