Stella McCartney Drops a Collection, Holds a Trunk Show, Gets Honored All in One Day
>> Stella McCartney's been a busy lady since she turned up stateside a couple of days ago to attend the Costume Institute Gala. Yesterday, she launched an exclusive summer collection with Net-a-Porter and then dropped by Barneys for her trunk show and a chat with creative director Simon Doonan, with whom she talked jumpsuits:
I love a jumpsuit. I wore one last night, at the Met event, and I had to have a girlfriend take me in an out of it every time I had to go to the bathroom — so it does have it’s drawbacks, but I love them because they’re just so effortless. I think that pretty much sums up my brand.

>> INSIDER WIRE —Jack McCollough has finally spoken on the whole Kiefer Sutherland-headbutting incident — via spokesperson: "Anyone who knows Jack McCollough knows that he would not hurt a fly. All we can say at this point is that he was the victim of a vicious, violent, unprovoked assault and that the matter is in the hands of the authorities." Further details remain nebulous — some say McCollough interrupted Brooke Shields and Sutherland as they were speaking, causing the two men to exchange words; some say McCollough accidentally knocked Shields over and Sutherland demanded an apology; and some say Jack tried to order a drink and was headbutted for no reason. Fall 2009 Trend Report: Oversize Necklaces Still Favored

Having indulged in something of a statement necklace binge last season, it seemed possible that the trend would lose steam this Fall. Although fewer designers showed off oversize necklaces, many chose to go for the look again. Surely an investment that won't go unnoticed, wear an oversized necklace with pulled back hair and minimal makeup.
Kate Moss To Pen Autobiography for Sir Richard Branson
>> Yesterday's rumors have become today's truths: Sir Richard Branson has confirmed that Kate Moss is writing an autobiography to be published by Virgin Books, cementing the fact that she now has not one but British business heavyweights to pull for her — will Branson and Sir Philip Green go at odds for her time? It was already circulated yesterday that Green was willing to pay up to ensure Kate's hostess gig at the Costume Institute Gala, and theirs is not just a business relationship: Kate vacationed just last weekend in Monaco with Green's family.
But back to the book: it aims to be a no-holds-barred account of her life, complete with anecdotes about her celebrity friends, and may even include details on her alleged drug abuse and breakup with Pete Doherty. "It's going to make an exciting read," Branson promised. There is no release date yet. Apparently the book deal — which is said to be worth £1 million (approx $1.5 million) — has been in place for several years, but was delayed in 2006 after Moss's cocaine scandal. Branson is a business partner in Moss's home agency, Storm Models, and has known her since she was 15.

>> IN PRODUCTION —The newest designers pulling up to the collaboration station: Anna Sui, who is following Alexander McQueen as the second designer in Target's Designer Collaboration series starting Sept. 13 with a Gossip Girl-inspired collection; Christopher Kane, who is doing his biggest line ever — "it's more than a capsule collection with bags, shoes, knitwear and dresses. It's nothing like any other work I've done in the past" — for Topshop, tentatively expected sometime in late August; and Lizzie Fortunato Jewels, who are taking their arts and crafts jewelry to Urban Outfitters under the label Hope Marian this July. T By Alexander Wang Fall 2009 Look Book
Alexander Wang's somewhat genius diffusion line of cotton-things offered more substance this Fall 2009. Layering, after all, is what winter is all about. Alongside those coveted ultra-thin t-shirts and tanks are now such items as a body-skimming maxi dress, a button-down union suit and an elegant one shoulder dress. As much as we sympathize with the argument that a cotton t-shirt is best bought for less than $25, we find these new additions give value to the range. Check out the complete Fall 2009 look book below.
Matthew Williamson's H&M Commercial: Quite the Trip
>> Matthew Williamson's Summer collection for H&M hits stores May 14, and what better way to catch attention than with a trippy one-minute online-only segment beginning with Daria Werbowy waking up and proclaiming, "Always the same, it's boring" and ending with Williamson rising from a colorful meteor crater, quipping, "Well I haven't done it all . . . yet." In between, trippy music, models jumping out of life-size magazines, pink horses . . . directed by Johan Renck and with the theme "It's time for change," it definitely sticks with you.
>> INSIDER WIRE —Hamish Bowles, who accompanied Marisa Bensen to Monday's Costume Institute Gala, crowned Shalom Harlow his favorite of the night and in the meantime set the record straight on her showstopper of an outfit: "the golden apple would have to be presented to Shalom Harlow, wearing a billowing black taffeta domino created by Bob Mackie in the eighties, over Olivier Theyskens’s black and scarlet beaded catsuit for [Nina] Ricci."
