>> A number of designers have looked to a runway alternative, mostly in the form of a video presentation, in the past couple of seasons — Viktor & Rolf, Gareth Pugh, Stefano Pilati at Yves Saint Laurent — and now another one plans to join the movement: Angela Missoni. She tells the Telegraph: “For the past 15 years, I’ve been trying to come up with an alternative to catwalks. Every spare five minutes I have, I try to imagine a different way of doing it — something less cold and distant. By 2010 I want there to be an alternative."
Part of the reason she's so keen for a change? She thinks the runway-as-spectacle idea has gotten out of hand. “I want to be judged on the clothes, not the performance. My parents used to hold their shows in the factory and invite a hundred people — which was the world’s press and their biggest customers like Saks, Bloomingdale’s and Joan Burstein of Browns boutique. That was all you needed.”

>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —While a horse of Steven Klein's caused Madonna injury over the weekend, another Steven — Steven Meisel — worked with a horse last week for one setting of the "marathon" four day Prada Fall 2009 campaign shoot at Pier 59 Studios in New York. No confirmation on which models were involved, but a number of unconfirmed sources are indicating four girls — Kendra Spears, Anna De Rijk, Katlin Aas, and Miuccia Prada's current favorite, Ymre Stiekema. Coachella Spawns Slimane Sighting, New York Times Fashion Shoot
>> Crowds will always flock to Indio for Coachella, and over the weekend, the fashion flock was well-represented. Agyness Deyn was photographed mid-smooch, confirming speculation that she has moved on from ex-fiance Albert Hammond, Jr. with Phantom Planet's Alex Greenwald and cementing her status as another British model with a thing for musicians.
Henry Holland, in town to pal around with Agy and see the shows, spotted Hedi Slimane "wandering around with a camera in all black." Yesterday morning, Slimane was still in town, scouting and taking breakfast at the newly-opened Ace Hotel in nearby Palm Springs. Also going down at the Ace over the weekend, a New York Times fashion shoot with photographer Sebastian Kim, which must be for an upcoming T magazine.

Keith Lissner Launches Bridge Line To Correspond With Bravo Debut
Bravo's upcoming reality show, The Fashion Show, starring Fern Mallis and Isaac Mizrahi, is poised to debut on May 7th and the contestants are preparing for the publicity. Designer Keith Lissner, who will appear on the show, just launched a bridge line this week called Keith by Keith Lissner. Lissner specializes in Marchesa-quality evening wear but wanted to offer potential customers something a little more accessible to match his television debut. The new range offers 12 fantastic cocktail dresses which are available immediately and retail around $250. Our favorites in the gallery below.
Barbara Hulanicki Of Biba Fame To Launch Topshop Collab Next Week
If you haven't already caught wind, Biba founder Barbara Hulanicki is poised to launch a capsule collection with Topshop next week. The range will debut in the New York and London stores as well as online this April 28th. Our Network Partner, Style Bubble, wrote on her visit to the showroom to see the collection as did our sister site, Fabsugar UK. The strong shoulders, wild leopard-like prints and whimsical dresses are perfectly curated in this collection. The most expensive piece, the suede jacket shown at left, will retail for around $200. If suede is what you're after, Topshop has been doing a lot of that this season, most notably by way of suede leggings which go for around $510. Regardless, we're sure all of the Barbara Hulanicki pieces will fly off the shelves.
From Runway To Reality: Jil Sander Asymmetrical Platforms

Last week we wrote about the Jil Sander fringe dresses that sold out immediately on Net-a-Porter and, today, a post in homage to the asymmetrical sandals from that same collection. These super tall beauties are a riff, perhaps, on the Maison Martin Margiela shoes that style blog Sea Of Shoes loves so much and though a five-inch heel and one-inch platform never sits well with us, we love the elegant look of these beauties. We have a feeling we will be seeing more of this look as the season progresses.
In The Showroom: Natascha Stolle Fall 2009
At the Centre For Fashion Enterprise pop-up showroom we caught up with American born designer Natascha Stolle. This season Stolle continued her exploration of adolescence, which is a signature theme in her work, by positioning body-con silhouettes on top of over-sized jersey dresses. She also once again mastered the art of making jersey look office-appropriate, with a series of extra-large turtlenecks that appeared at once comforting and fashion-forward. Check out our snapshots from the showroom along with a few runway examples in the gallery below.
