>> THE MODELIZER —A move to New York can make a model's career, but Lakshmi Menon won't have any of it — she finds it "impossible to live in cities.” Instead, she resides with her long-term partner, photographer Prabuddha Dasgupta, in the beach town of Goa, India, which is at least two flights and sometimes two days away from New York, Milan, and Paris. “Looking from outside India, most people have the impression of a Slumdog Millionaire situation or believe that the First World has a better life to offer,” says Menon. “But I have no desire to move to Europe. Coming home is like a holiday for me now." [Vogue Daily]

Frida Giannini Takes the Zara Comparisons as Compliments
>> Frida Giannini feels the heat from fashion critics whenever she presents a new Gucci collection — her Spring 2009 collection earned comparisons to Zara, and the Fall 2009 collection to Bebe, but judging from two recent conversations she had with The Times (UK), she doesn't seem to mind. “I’m not criticised by all the world — it is a very small niche of people. And I will never change for them. I want to stay close to my thoughts. When someone wants to offend me by saying I’m copied by the high street — well, for me, it’s a huge compliment.”
Despite the allegations that she's taken the brand too commercial, Frida vows that she's not caught up in all the celebrity-obsessed hubbub; she's more focused on keeping the $2.2 billion turnover she's cultivated for the brand.
She cares so little about celebrities, there were no red carpet gowns in the runway show.
“I didn't want to show long evening dresses this time because it's not about the Oscars any more. I don't want to waste our time designing something that at the last minute might not get worn. Anyway, celebrities just aren't my obsession. Some are really damaged by their stylists as well — and there's no loyalty to a brand. Audrey Hepburn's style was really defined by Givenchy, but now actresses wear anything and everything, and that can damage a brand too. I'm more interested in talking to real women.”
>> THE MODELIZER —Is someone looking to respond to last July's iconic Vogue Italia dedicated to black models? Last Friday, Sessilee Lopez and Chanel Iman both twittered within the span of a day about a shoot in London, which seems to place them together. First, Chanel early in the morning: "IN London Shooting a MAJOR SURPRISE COVER!!!!Its top secret can't give it away!!" followed by Sessilee in the evening: "Leaving London now!!! My God when you guys see the photos from this shoot you will die, all i can say is ITS A MAJOR MOMENT IN FASHION!!!!!" Their excitement has prompted speculation that the shoot is for an upcoming Vogue Paris, Vogue UK, or Love cover, but there are no further clues to go by. Madonna Said To Return for Louis Vuitton Fall 2009
>> Who's getting paid to wear Louis Vuitton's Fall 2009 bunny ears and French frippery? Rumors say that Madonna will be returning for her second season in a row, after a splay-legged turn in a French-style LA cafe for Spring 2009. The shoot has not taken place yet, but is expected to occur at the end of this month.
Photographic honors for Fall 2009 go to Steven Meisel, who took over last season from Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott after their six years as Louis Vuitton campaign lensmen; logical that he would continue, since Vuitton director of communications Antoine Arnault said the liaison between the brand and photographer would likely last more than one season. As for the repeat choice of Madonna, it was clear last season that Marc Jacobs was smitten with his choice.
Pour La Victoire Does Eden Shoe In Different Colors, Price Points

We're not quite sure how or why Urban Outfitters is selling Pour La Victoire's Eden shoe under the label "PLV" for one hundred and twenty dollars below the typical retail price---but stranger things have happened. The description of the shoe is uniform across the sites that carry the brand but the color options and price points are slightly more diverse. Still, we love this shoe for summer in all of its various shades.
>> INSIDER WIRE —When Bruce Weber found out Matt Tyrnauer was directing the Valentino: The Last Emperor documentary, he gave Tyrnauer some advice: “Hire male models to work for you. It doesn’t matter if they know how to do anything; you’ll get double the time with Valentino and Giancarlo [Giammetti]. And let me tell you, no better advice has been dispensed. We did hire male models, and eventually the job they ended up doing was putting the mikes on Valentino and Giancarlo before we’d start filming each day. You know, it has to go under the clothes. Well, they loved that. They’d say, “Is it time to get our mikes on yet?” [The Cut]

Jewelry Designer Hannah Martin Goes E-Commerce
Hannah Martin’s assailing luxury jewelry for men has positioned her as one today’s leading tastemakers in the world of design. She has worked as a consultant for both Cartier and Givenchy and her creations have been picked up by the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Chris Bailey, and Georgina Goodman. Martin’s collections rely heavily on narratives that involve hyper-males (imaginary and red-blooded) who are as villainous as they are elegant. Precisely because of the irresistible androgynous forces in her work, Martin’s pieces are constantly mentioned as being just as likable to women as they are to men. It was when Martin was working for Cartier by day, and hanging out with her rock and roll friends in Paris by night, that her line was conceived. In her collections, which she puts forth but once a year, she blends these two worlds beautifully. Her newest collection, inspired by a character called Vincent, calls up Soviet Russia and gangster iconography with sculptural pendants, thick emblem rings, and hand-cut onyx cuff links. Click on the title link to check out Martin's newly launched e-commerce site, including the debut of her newest collection.
