Shopping: The Limited Steps Up To The Plate This Summer

Between Topshop openings and high-profile Uniqlo collabs it's been a tough run for some of the American mainstream retailers.

Between Topshop openings and high-profile Uniqlo collabs it's been a tough run for some of the American mainstream retailers. Suddenly their fast fashion isn't fast enough nor are their aesthetics on the cusp of what's happening in fashion. We think this summer will mark a make-or-break moment for some of these names and we're already seeing some of the biggest players amping up their profiles. Count The Limited in that group. This mainstream retailer is offering a numer of chic, pulled together looks this summer which have us more than tempted. Check them out, right here.

Isabel Toledo Retrospective Poised To Open This June

It was announced this week that a fashion retrospective celebrating designer Isabel Toledo is slated to open at FIT's museum this June. The retrospective, entitled "Isabel Toledo: Fashion From The Inside Out", will display approximately seventy looks from the mid-1980's to present, including pieces from Toledo's time as creative director of Anne Klein. The retrospective will be open to the public from June 17th through September 26th. We'll be reporting on the retrospective when it opens but, for now, check out a first look at some of the designs included in the exhibition.

Richard Chai to Take Over at Bill Blass?

>> Last we heard, Bill Blass was sold after Peter Som left and the new owners Peacock International Holdings filed bankruptcy, with eventual plans to start the line back up.  Then, last week, the search for a new creative director was revealed to be on, with plans to relaunch later this year.Several industry sources are now indicating that Richard Chai may be the man to take over — he is supposedly in talks with Peacock.  "I'm afraid we can't comment at the moment," was a Chai spokesperson's response to the rumors, and Peacock's executive vice president of licensing and sales also declined to give any information: "We can't comment on who we're interviewing for the position."  He did, however, confirm that the new creative director would be announced in a month or so.

Chai definitely has the right look for the brand — modern American sportswear — plus the support of retailers and editors, particularly Anna Wintour, so it won't be a surprise if he's chosen for the job.

In The Showroom: Felder Felder Fall 2009

Now in their fourth season since graduating from Central St Martins, the twin sis duo behind Felder Felder have nearly perfected that irresistible balance between hard and soft fashion elements. This season there was punk-chic metal embroidery and voluptuous Mongolian lambs wool, there were body-hugging leather pieces and pops of cobalt and tangerine to liven things up. If the archetypal concept of "cool girl" dressing involves a cocktail dress with a little leather jacket thrown over-top, then think of Felder Felder as modern interpreters of that look. In the gallery below, check out our snapshots from the showroom along with runway images from the Felder Felder show in Berlin.

He said business overall at the $1.8 billion chain is OK, in the face of the dismal economy. "I’m almost embarrassed to say it’s OK.…We can sell two-for-$18 jerseys and a $500 dress within 15 feet of each other. That’s the secret. We have something for everyone."

Shopping: Two-Tone Sandals In Bright Colors

Just like yesterday's big, bright leopard prints, two-tone sandals in bright colors are another example of spring's optimistic mood.

Just like yesterday's big, bright leopard prints, two-tone sandals in bright colors are another example of spring's optimistic mood. Vibrant but still dynamic, there's practically a color combination and heel height for every type of gal out there. We love imagining the outfit possibilities as we think they'd make even an old pair of Levis and a t-shirt look brand new.
