>> Margherita Missoni was dangled above Venice in Missoni wings and dress to kick off the annual carnival last week, but this afternoon, she was right outside her mother's show in Milan, smoking while everyone waited to get inside. The collection that debuted is one of the first this season that has really seemed to invigorate everyone about next season — online and front row viewers alike seem to be in raptures. The styling, impeccable — layers and layers of scarves wrapped heads loosely, cardigans fitted under jackets and over leggings — knitwear everywhere, as the brand's heritage dictates. Even in a palette of neutrals with the occasional staccato of blue, the looks were gripping, seamless — and no doubt, we'll be a seeing a lot more of them in the months to come.

Milan Fashion Week: Missoni Fall 2009
>> INSIDER WIRE —Sure, Oscar de la Renta's son Moises may be debuting his own line, MDLR, this season — but he has a long way to go if he aims to be the heir to his father's design house. Oscar isn't planning on retiring anytime soon, but right now, he told Cathy Horyn he thinks his son-in-law and CEO of the company, Alex Bolen, may be the best person to succeed him — he's "the one person who challenges me all the time." Diane von Furstenberg Tries Other Designers On For Size in Purple
>> Apparently Diane von Furstenberg's Purple cover — featuring the designer in leotard, heels, and Margiela wig coat — sold well; Founder Olivier Zahm posted a note today saying that the magazine "is currently sold out in most of the United States." For those who haven't snatched up their copy yet, new shipments are arriving Friday, but in the meantime, a further look at Diane's editorial outing — curiously, she's not wearing any of her own designs, but rather Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, and Rodarte. We know she's a fan of the latter; she was front row at their show last week.

Milan Fashion Week: Emporio Armani Fall 2009
>> INSIDER WIRE —New York Times's T magazine — which just last weekend brought us tidbits about Giambattista Valli's last-minute bow-out as successor to Valentino, Katie Grand's love for rabbits, guinea pigs, and Muppets, and Oscar de la Renta's fear of being alone, may be in jeopardy. The magazine has been scaled back from 15 to 12 issues a year, and there are internal rumblings that it may fold or end up as a special section within the main New York Times Sunday Magazine. [NY Post]
UPDATE: A spokeswoman clarified there will be 13 issues, not 12, and two of the four fashion issues published will be absorbed into the Sunday Magazine. [The Cut]
Denim Brand From The Seventies, Les Halles, Re-Launches
Making a comeback this season is denim brand Les Halles which first launched back in the seventies. The husband and wife team behind Les Halles worked with their daughter this time around, as it was she who thought to revitalize the brand. Back when the brand first launched their signature style was a slouchy boyfriend-style jean which, their daughter noticed, would soon be fashionable again. The best part is that Les Halles jeans are low-priced by today's standards--they retail for quick $120 a piece.

London Fashion Week: Louise Gray Fall 2009

We're not sure if the feeling is universal but we can't get enough of bra-tops for Spring. Pair them with high waisted trousers or layer them a la Louise Gray Fall 2009, and you're set. Speaking of Gray, her newest collection is full of her colorful, powerbabe pieces but, as she told WWD, paired with more substantial offerings as well. In this case, substantial translates to wearable, less-noticeable outerwear and lean trousers. All we can say is, Go Gray!
