>> For the second season in a row, Australian minimalist Josh Goot took his game to London Fashion Week. The designer had to change venues at the last minute, losing 100 seats and causing a mad dash for the diminished number of front row seats, but all the chaos is a sign of one positive thing — there was a good turnout. Goot stayed true to his predilection for black, white, pastels, and marbled prints cut in a number of body-conscious silhouettes; colorblocking played a large part in the Fall 2009 collection, as did knits, but the eye-catching pieces involved curvy lines and digital prints.

>> INSIDER WIRE — No word on who graces the cover, but here's a preview of the Spring 2009 issue of Self Service, due out March 5. Inside? Dree Hemingway, who seems to suddenly be appearing everywhere, Mario Sorrenti, Camilla Nickerson, Malgosia Bela, Raquel Zimmermann, Lara Stone, Stella McCartney, Jeff Koons, Katie Grand, and Diane Von Furstenberg — who must be making the indie magazine rounds, between this and her Purple cover. Alaia Wasn't Good Enough for Dior, But Naomi Campbell Lived With Him
>> He may be one of the lesser knowns of a design generation that includes Valentino Garavani, Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, and Giorgio Armani, but at 68, Azzedine Alaia has carved out a niche of his own. Like Armani, Alaia owns his business, allowing him to design his way — as Stephanie Seymour, who spoke with the designer for March 2009 Interview puts it — "usually very late at night with an old film playing in the background." More elusive than Marc Jacobs but more forthcoming than Martin Margiela, a window into Alaia's world is always a treat; More from Seymour and the man she refers to as "Papa":
Alaia was fired from Christian Dior after five days.
I met my best friend, Leila, whose mother had connections to clients of Christian Dior in Paris, and eventually someone asked if I could come work there. I got the job. But when I arrived, it was the end of the Algerian War [1962]. After five days there they said to me, "You can't work here any longer. You're a foreigner."
>> THE MODELIZER —Naomi Campbell may greet the suggestion of passing the torch on to Jourdan Dunn with an irritated snort — "Jourdan Dunn isn't Naomi Campbell. I've never said I'm retiring, And if I did want to stop working, I'd just do it quietly" — but it does make [her] "feel happy" to see Jourdan get covers and awards: "I'm just so thrilled." Be prepared to be thrilled again, Naomi — according to Caroline Trentini, Jourdan is joining her and seven other models (seven now named, two unknown) on that foldout May 2009 Vogue cover.
