Shorts made an unseasonal, stylish comeback this winter, popping up everywhere on model-thin girls with thick tights and platform pumps. These new micro styles just in for resort could work during a relaxed beach vacation or a dressed-up evening in the city. Our current favorites are the leather shorts by Fendi and Thakoon and the metallic harem style by 3.1 Phillip Lim.

The New York-based mother/daughter designers of Contrarian are focused on creating inventive, wearable fashion at a contemporary price point. Their first complete collection for spring 2010 shows influences coming from Japanese fashion design, New York street style, and Edwardian codes of dress. The conflicting references mix together in the form of backless button down shirts, mid-length full skirts, long tail tuxedo jackets, smart waistcoats, and apron dresses. Terry Richardson's editorial for V magazine's "The Size Issue" features plus-sized model Crystal Renn along side a more traditional model-size zero, Jacquelyn Jablonski.
Wearing identical looks—both in sample size outfits, the models are similarly posed to prove a point. Richardson's photo spread takes on the myth that bright, form-fitting fashion can only work on girl with a 24 inch waist and succeeds in making those Proenza Schouler skirts look just as fashionable around Renn's 41 inch hips.
Renn, who has walked for Jean Paul Gaultier and appeared in American Vogue, recently authored a book about her own weight and body image struggles within the modeling industry. The memoir entitled, "Hungry: A Young Model's Story of Appetite, Ambition and the Ultimate Embrace of Curves," was released this fall.
