Isabel Marant

Isabel Marant Slowly Easing Up on Policy of Limited Availability

>> In a world of increasing accessibility to luxury goods, Isabel Marant has been going against the grain.

>> In a world of increasing accessibility to luxury goods, Isabel Marant has been going against the grain. Retailers are forbidden to sell, post pictures, or even state price of Marant goods online. Retailers estimate only a few hundred of the highly-coveted Fall 2009 black suede studded boots were produced to be sold the US, reports the Wall Street Journal. It's all about creating consumer want through rarity.

One London customer couldn't find the Marant boots she wanted, so she called the brand's boutique in Paris: "They said, 'Oh, we don't ship outside of Paris. If you want the boots, you have to come and get them.'"  When the company only delivered three pairs of boots out of a 28 pair order, Nevena Borissova, owner of Curve, Marant's biggest retail client in the US, flew to Paris to ask the designer to produce more.  Only after Borissova committed to €50,000 (about $70,000) order did she agree.

So why so hard to find? »

Lindsay Lohan Hoping Leather and Lace Leggings Never Go Out of Style

After Lindsay Lohan tweeted yesterday that her 6126 line of leggings was expanding into a full collection of clothing, New York magazine's The Cut picked up the story, and, this morning, WWD has more details on the surely anticipated news: According to the paper, Lohan will not only launch a ready-to-wear collection next year, but cosmetics, handbags, shoes, and jewelry will follow in the spring of 2011.

After Lindsay Lohan tweeted yesterday that her 6126 line of leggings was expanding into a full collection of clothing, New York magazine's The Cut picked up the story, and, this morning, WWD has more details on the surely anticipated news:

According to the paper, Lohan will not only launch a ready-to-wear collection next year, but cosmetics, handbags, shoes, and jewelry will follow in the spring of 2011. Produced by DNAM Apparel—which also brings us the screen print tattooed world of Ed Hardy—the line will consist of 150 pieces, priced at a contemporary $100-$150. Important fabrics will be leather and lace, of course, and the line will be sold where 6162 is available, namely Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's, Macy's, and Nordstrom.

According to Kristi Kaylor, principal of Lohan's fashion company in Beverly Hills, “[Lindsay] is intimately involved from Day One. She picks fabrics. She looks at trims. She picks buttons. She doesn’t let anything go into production without trying it on.” Well, thank God for that. For her sake we hope the ladies still love a stone-washed jegging and see-through backs on their pants in 2011.

Shopping: Online Vintage Jewelry Finds

Online retailers selling vintage jewelry are gaining momentum as consumers look to make meaningful purchases that will last a lifetime.

Online retailers selling vintage jewelry are gaining momentum as consumers look to make meaningful purchases that will last a lifetime. As Carmen Haid, founder of vintage clothing and accessories website Atelier Meyer, told WWD in an article on the demand for vintage online, “I don’t think people want to spend on a piece from the high street that will last a season anymore. A vintage investment is season-less." And, when it comes to jewelry, vintage often equals timeless. Take our selection above from Christian Lacroix, Givenchy, and Chanel among others—there's nothing we probably wouldn't wear ten years from now.

>> Andre Leon Talley's New TV Role Not Wintour-Approved? —Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Andre Leon Talley would be filling a full-time judge role for the fourteenth cycle of America's Next Top Model. However, word is that Anna Wintour is less than pleased with his new direction: she apparently hasn't approved the new post, even with "numerous pleas" from show creator Tyra Banks. Sonia Rykiel's second (and most highly anticipated) collection for H&M will debut in stores on February 20th. Following the lingerie line which included boudoir-style evening wear, the new knitwear pieces are classically French and distinctly Rykiel.
