Peter Copping Looks to Be Theyskens's Nina Ricci Replacement

>> The Olivier Theyskens-Nina Ricci saga continues: Sources are saying that Peter Copping, who met with Ricci owners two weeks ago, is in place to succeed as designer at Nina Ricci.  No details could be determined on when the switchover would occur — Olivier is contracted until October, which means he could show up to two more collections for the label, but rumors of clashes between the designer and management also imply that he might leave sooner. The main point of disagreement is understand to be management's expected commerciality of Olivier's designs — apparently his Spring 2009 collection didn't sell well, but Olivier still seems blase about paying attention the bottom line.  The designer has a history of designing expensive pieces that, while eliciting editorial acclaim, don't always sell well — this was the case at Rochas before Nina Ricci.

Copping, on the other hand, hails from Louis Vuitton, where if nothing else, he's guaranteed a pedigree in how to make money with fashion — Louis Vuitton is not exactly known for losing money as both Ricci and Rochas did with Olivier at the helm.  Copping sounds exactly like what the brass at Nina Ricci would be looking for right about now — plus, he's Marc Jacobs's right-hand man, and has the Central Saint Martins degree.

In the midst of all this mess, Olivier still appears blase — he was spotted out partying Monday night, a big smile plastered across his face.  Maybe he knows something we don't know?

Gareth Pugh

>> INSIDER WIRE —Earlier this week, deputy managing director at Christian Dior (and LVMH heiress) Delphine Arnault sat front row at Gareth Pugh's debut menswear show, prompting rumors that he is being looked at to either consult for Dior Homme or perhaps take over from Kris van Assche.  So far, there's only been denial from both camps — Delphine chalked her appearance up to "always [being] interested in young designers," and a Pugh spokesman assured: "There have been no discussions whatsoever with Dior or LVMH about any kind of design role."

Japan Fashion Week In New York Spring 2009

Last night we attended the first annual Japan Fashion Week in New York event where emerging Japanese designers showed looks from their Spring 2009 collections. For some designers, like Hidenobu Yasui, it was their first time ever being in New York, while other designers, like tiny dinosaur, only recently landed here thanks to the efforts of Opening Ceremony. The event helped establish a stronger bond between fashion in New York and Japan which, with any luck, will only continue to grow.

Quote Of The Day: Suzy Menkes On Chanel And The Couture Shows

Now that the bubble of extravagance has burst, it was up to the handful of couturiers still showing in Paris to make the summer collections relevant to a changed world.
Now that the bubble of extravagance has burst, it was up to the handful of couturiers still showing in Paris to make the summer collections relevant to a changed world. But the masters of the fashion universe did not opt for low-budget luxury - rather for couture-light - using creativity to capture the hopeful post-Obama spirit.

Spring 2009 Haute Couture Trend Report: Metallic Lavender

There might not be many shows that make up a couture season but that doesn't mean there are not trends.

There might not be many shows that make up a couture season but that doesn't mean there are not trends. This season, we're noticing quite a few instances metallic lavender. From Armani Prive to Givenchy, and today, from Elie Saab, it seems this pale, feminine color with a litle bit of shine is an appealing option indeed.

WWD recounts the celebrity presence at the Spring 2009 Chanel Haute Couture show, like everyone else, completely ignoring the fact that Kayne West was in every picture.

Alexander Wang is jumping on the bandwagon and launching his own men's range which will debut this Spring 2010. But where will he show?

Plenty of new Urban Outfitters collaboration announcements thanks to Stylefile, who refers to those particular consumers as "tightwads". Classy.
