>> Last year, Kate Moss tried to ring in 34 by partying one hour for every year since her birth — she only made it 18, but she did it in starry Chanel, no less. The Business of Fashion reports on Barbie's influence on independent designers this Fall 09. Never thought we'd say that but then again, they probably didn't either.
We find the oversized black and white polka dot trend too fabulous for words--especially when it's skillfully layered with contrasting prints. This swimwear collection is one of the first by Isaac Mizrahi in his new position as Creative Director at Liz Claiborne and his skill at understanding the most basic consumer needs is perfectly demonstrated. The first set of deliveries in the collection, or Cruise 1, consists of suits you would want to wear when you're not in the beach bum mindset yet, like navy and white suits in polka dots, stripes, and solids. The second set of deliveries, or Cruise 2, is full of bright prints and fits the state of mind you're in after lounging at the beach for a few days (or, hey, weeks). We love Mizrahi's fresh, all-American take on swimwear--especially because it's so flexible.

What that translates to, really, are strong hyper-female outfits not unfamiliar to Galliano in the slightest. In a recession, this uncompromised way of dressing might be the one sentiment that impresses women.
Samples from the Spring 2009 Obedient Sons & Daughters collection which will not be produced will be sold at a sample sale next week.
Blackbook offers their take on recession lingo adopted by the glossies and yes, "crisis chic" is among them.
Thom Browne staged his powerful dystopia-themed show in Florence yesterday which consisted of two outfits and a choreographed office scene.
