>> Rumor: LVMH May Sell DKNY, Make Bid On Hermes —Word is that LVMH is shopping around DKNY, with no plans to sell Donna Karan Collection, because it wants to focus on high-end luxury brands with a strong international recognition; DKNY's only response was to state that long-term company policy is to not comment on rumors.  European private investment firms are also buzzing that in addition to dropping DKNY, LVMH may be selling Moet-Hennessy to make a grab for Hermes. Solve Sundsbo, Surface to Air Pair for Graphic Collaboration

Mon, 08/24/09 — 03:31:18 PM

>> Vivid, graphic images are taking over: Christopher Kane searched the UK Ministry of Defense's website for the nuclear test images that showed up on his Resort 2010 dresses, and now Paris-based creative studio and clothing label Surface to Air has paired with photographer Solve Sundsbo to translate three of his works onto a limited-edition set of a printed silk dress, printed silk top, and printed bag ($200) for each.  “We were looking for images that could create surprising pieces,” Aldric Speer, Surface to Air’s brand designer, told the New York Times. The collection will be available next month from Art + Commerce, Surface to Air, and Barneys New York.

>> Is Renee Zellweger's Red Carpet Partnership with Carolina Herrera Over? —Last week, sources told WWD that Mario Grauso, president of Puig Fashion Group who oversees Carolina Herrera, Nina Ricci, and Paco Rabanne, has submitted his resignation and will step down after New York Fashion Week.  The exit is said to be amicable, but it is speculated that he was unhappy with Olivier Theyskens's ousting at Ricci.  Now, a source tells Page Six, Grauso, who introduced Renee Zellweger, Amy Adams, and Reese Witherspoon to Carolina Herrera, may be taking his celebrity followers with him: "None of them will wear Carolina Herrera on the red carpet now that he's gone. Mario paved the way for the brand by putting Renée in Herrera for award shows and carpets. He made it youthful." [WWD, Page Six]

Is Martin Margiela's Supposed Exit Just an Elaborate Hoax?

Mon, 08/24/09 — 02:00:15 PM

>> Rumors have been swirling around Martin Margiela for almost a year now — but is it all just a ruse put into play by the designer himself?

First, it was reported last September that he was exiting fashion imminently; by March of this year, despite company execs assuring that the designer was still in place, critics were convinced that Margiela had left the building.  And last week, T posited that Haider Ackermann may be taking Margiela's place.

But now, Hint reports:

While rumors are brewing that Haider Ackermann may be Martin Margiela's successor, sources close to the elusive Belgian insist that this is one of his elaborate hoaxes. Whatever the case, we hear the incognito king was at the Los Angeles boutique not long ago waiting on unsuspecting costumers.

It sounds like Margiela is still in place at the company if he's waiting on customers at one of his boutiques — so maybe the hoax doesn't just involve the Ackermann rumor, but encompasses the entire supposed exit . . .

Allegra Beck Versace Styles, Interviews for the New Issue of LOVE

Mon, 08/24/09 — 12:42:28 PM

>> Allegra Beck Versace usually stays pretty low profile despite her marquee name and majority stake in the Versace brand, but she pitched in for the second issue of LOVE, styling and interviewing Gossip Girl's Taylor Momsen, who was captured by Collier Schorr.  The two must be friends — Taylor attended Allegra's intimate 23rd birthday party a couple of months ago.  Another little tidbit about the new LOVE — the two cover stars were booked by none other than The Misshapes' Greg Krelenstein.
