Streetstyle Photog Couple Snag More Vogue Space: The Sartorialist with Vogue Italia, Garance Dore with Vogue Paris

Tue, 08/18/09 — 04:52:47 PM

>> Scott "The Sartorialist" Schuman, whose first book came out last week, is about to add another Vogue edition to his resume: Vogue Italia.  Schuman has photographed for Vogue Paris in the past — Carine Roitfeld is a fan — and seems to have won over Franca Sozzani: he recently shot Rachel Rutt for Vogue Italia.

His girlfriend and fellow streetstyle photographer Garance Dore has also been amping up her reach: this Fall, she will have more frequent contributions on Vogue Paris's website and perhaps in the magazine, focusing on the magazine's "Une fille, un style" ("A girl, a style") column, plus "behind-the-scenes coverage of fashion shoots, profiles of stylish women around the world in collaboration with French Vogue editor in chief Carine Roitfeld and other subjects of her choosing."

And last week, Patrick Robinson announced that Garance would be collaborating with Gap on an exhibit in their London pop-up next month, with her sketches (like the one above, left) on T-shirts.

>> Donatella Versace Admits She Loves Playing the Diva — Christopher Kane, in the midst of interviewing Donatella Versace, asks her if she enjoys the celebrity-driven aspect of fashion: "It’s a love-hate relationship. I would definitely prefer not to be obliged to attend certain events and parties, but I must . . . On the other hand, I have to admit that I do actually enjoy acting up to the 'diva' role that I have been allotted: after all, I am a bit of a diva, aren’t I?" [Times UK]

Katie Grand Rolls Her Eyes at the Prospect of Replacing Alexandra Shulman at British Vogue

Tue, 08/18/09 — 03:33:41 PM

>> The second edition of LOVE comes out next week, and even though she just recently got married, editor-in-chief Katie Grand didn't have time for a honeymoon because she had to finish the issue.  Katie is somewhat the antithesis of Anna Wintour in the so-called glamorous world of fashion: she doesn't feel the need to have every hair in place and she doesn't mandate high heels, like Vogue supposedly does.

“I’m really practical,” she recently told the Times UK. “I go to the gym most mornings and I walk everywhere, so that’s why I wear flat shoes and no make-up. It’s not vanity; it’s laziness. I didn’t wear make-up on my wedding day because I didn’t want mascara running down my face if I cried.”  Also missing from the wedding?  The traditional white dress. “I wore an Azzedine Alaïa brown snakeskin dress, which he tortured me for about two months to get into, but at least it’s something I can wear again. I didn’t want some stupid white dress; it seems like such a waste."

>> CFDA Publishes American Fashion Cookbook Full of Designer's Recipes —Food and fashion don't always go hand in hand, but the CFDA is trying to change that this month with the release of American Fashion Cookbook, a compilation of recipes, illustrations, and food-related quotes from over 100 American designers. No word on what foodies like Jason Wu or Peter Som contributed, but Derek Lam went with Yellowtail Crudo, Isaac Mizrahi submitted Mushroom Truffle Spaghetti, and Diane von Furstenberg, who says she's "never been a great cook," added a recipe for Saturday Night Chicken. Publisher Assouline has a preview of the first 30 or so pages. [Stylecaster, Amazon]

What's Christian Lacroix Up To These Days?

Tue, 08/18/09 — 12:47:54 PM

>> Right now, Christian Lacroix is playing the waiting game: he has to wait until September, when the courts decide whose bid will be accepted: that of the Italian Borletti group, which would cut more than half of Lacroix's staff but keep the couture business, or that of current Lacroix owners the Falic Group, who have submitted a restructuring plan that calls for 90 percent of the staff to be cut, leaving only administrative workers, and allowing the company to license out Lacroix's name to recoup some of their debt.

Lacroix has said he supports the Borletti bid, but for now, he's been staying in Arles, France, where he grew up.  There's no news of whether he will do a Spring 2010 collection, which he would normally show at the beginning of October, because when Lacroix filed for court protection, the court ordered the Falic Group only had to pay him through this month.  His Fall 2009 couture collection, shown in July, was made up of 24 looks and only happened because everything from the fabrics to the shoes were donated.

So what does his future hold? »

>> Dasha Zhukova Is Pregnant Rumors hit yesterday that despite talk of relationship strife, POP editor Dasha Zhukova is pregnant by boyfriend of three years, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. Today, the news is confirmed: Zhukova is said to be almost six months along and found out after a vacation to the Caribbean.  Abramovich, who was last seen out in public with Dasha over the weekend when they attended a U2 Concert and soccer game in London, apparently told close friends and family last month; friends say the baby will be born in Moscow.
