Donna Karan Places Toni Garrn's Head on Other Models' Bodies for Fall 2009 Ads

Mon, 07/13/09 — 05:29:29 PM

>> A number of designers are sticking very close to ideas from seasons past for the Fall 2009 round of ad campaigns — Louis Vuitton went for Madonna "Part Deux," Versace's set features the same model — Gisele Bundchen — doing the same pose she did for the house's Spring 2008 ads, and now Donna Karan, who decided last season to save money by taking her runway photography and reinterpreting it for the ads, is using the same tactic this season.

The set of Fall 2009 ads that appear on the front page of Karan's website all feature Toni Garrn, one in the look she wore down the runway. In the other two ads, it appears that Toni's head was Photoshopped onto the bodies of Anya Kazakova and Sasha Pivovarova — the stances on both bodies are identical to those in the runway photos of the collection on the website.

London Fashion Week Hires Kelly Cutrone to Bring Editors, Buyers, and Bravo TV Cameras

Mon, 07/13/09 — 04:28:45 PM

>> After almost being edged out by New York and Milan Fashion Weeks last season, the British Fashion Council has launched a major push to bring London Fashion Week back on solid ground.  Already, in conjunction with the event's 25th anniversary, Burberry, Matthew Williamson, Pringle of Scotland, Jonathan Saunders, Clements Ribeiro, and Jasmine de Milo — with Amanda Wakeley and Jeremy Scott, who's never shown in London, as the latest converts — have pledged to show in London for the Spring 2010 season in September.

Now, the British Fashion Council has announced it hired Kelly Cutrone's US-based PR company, People's Revolution, to promote London Fashion Week and British designers stateside. The goal is to drive buyer and editor traffic, according to BFC joint chief executive Caroline Rush: “The appointment of People’s Revolution aims to increase awareness and exposure of British designers amongst US media and buyers with the goal of supporting the growth of designer businesses and increasing the attendance of these audiences at London Fashion Week.”

And there's always the added advantage of TV visibility — cameras for Kelly's upcoming Bravo show, Kell on Earth, will be shooting all through London Fashion Week.

Kate Moss May Be Joining Sir Philip Green's New Entertainment Venture

Mon, 07/13/09 — 03:13:06 PM

>> Topshop's Sir Philip Green and American Idol's Simon Cowell recently teamed up to form a global entertainment company focusing on original television shows with accompanying merchandise — Disney has been cited as their model. The company is supposed to be officially launched in the next few weeks, and already reports are surfacing that Kate Moss — who is close friends with Green and was spotted celebrating the new venture with Green and Cowell two weeks ago — has signed a multi-million-pound deal to direct the image and style of the brand.

As her "friends" told the Daily Mail of the opportunity: "Philip knows Kate has been looking for a way out of modelling for the past five years. She is bored silly with her own career and has vastly increased his Topshop sales and image. He promised her that she would be a big share holder and partner when the deal was ready to roll."

So what will she be doing? »

Escada Is In Deep Trouble

Mon, 07/13/09 — 12:37:24 PM

>> The fate of embattled German fashion house Escada has taken a turn for the worse.  The brand has suffered from weak sales for several seasons and the company collapse projected in May is currently looking probable, according to an interview with Escada chairman Bruno Saelzer published yesterday in German newspaper Welt Am Sonntag

Saelzer confirmed the Escada group is in a difficult situation, indicating it had enough liquidity to last until August but not beyond; if an alternative solution is not found, the business will be dissolved after that point.  The company has put a debt restructuring plan to its creditors which must be approved by 80 percent of them before July 31; otherwise, Saelzer said it would be “inevitable” that Escada cease trading because “98 out of the 99 possible measures” to save the company had already been taken.
