Valentino: The Last Emperor

Matt Tyrnaur's film on the life and times of Valentino and his business partner Giancarlo Giammetti entitled "Valentino: The Last Emperor" is making the film festival rounds and as we prepare to see a Valentino collection in Paris without the great man at the helm we thought we would publish a few film clips graciously furnished us by the production company.

Best of Coterie: Harlan Bel

Brandy Lunsford straddles the seemingly disparate worlds of tomboy equestrian ease and womanly fashion with her line Harlan Bel, of which we have been fans of since we first used it in our photo editorial La Belle Dam San Merci in March.

And our enthusiasm only grows stronger with each new collection. She  balances harder tailoring with a feminine sense for textile usage and her Spring 2009 collection is no exception.

Tom Ford

>> INSIDER WIRE —Funny how things work: When Tom Ford left fashion to direct movies, things never fell into place, but now that he's back in fashion, his directorial dreams might just come true.  Ford acquired movie rights to Christopher Isherwood's 1964 novel A Single Man — about a gay college professor who deals with the recent death of his lover — last November, and plans to begin filming in LA this November.  No studio is attached to the project yet, but Julianne Moore, Jamie Bell, and Colin Firth are all in talks to star.

Estaban Cortazar will showing his Emanuel Ungaro collection in Paris next week but for those who love the Ungaro aesthetic too much to wait perhaps a fall makeup will do in the meantime? MAC Cosmetics' limited edition collaboration with the house brings out the "softly nuanced Ungaro face." The cosmetics were first used on the runway for the Fall 2008 show and thankfully for consumers the long wait is over as it will be on makeup counters October 2nd.

Raf Simons Sees the Benefits of Fringe for Jil Sander Spring 2009

>> Raf Simons is earning raves for his tribal Africa-cum-the 1920s-cum-Man Ray-inspired Spring 2009 Jil Sander collection, and there are no arguments here.  Yulia Kharlapanova opened the parade in a fantastic fringed turtleneck dress, and the fringe details just got better from there — even flowing forth from bags.  The collection may have been void of color, but it was not void of innovation; it also marks the start of a new jewelry licensing deal with Damiani — spikey earrings "that resemble spears with a cluster of diamonds" were previewed on the models' ears.
