Grey Ant Collab News & Summer Sales

Grey Ant, our favorite contemporary brands from this summer, will be participating in one of the eponymous Urban Outfitters collaborations.

Grey Ant, our favorite contemporary brands from this summer, will be participating in one of the eponymous Urban Outfitters collaborations. The collection will be cleverly titled Grey Antics, and feature the same kind of seventies inspired bottoms and billowy tops that the ready to wear line puts out. Last time we went to Urban Outfitters (while in SF) we picked up a jumper from some jumbled pile and discovered it was one by Geren Ford (we think, we can't remember). You have to be carefully skilled in deciphering what, to us, feels like waaay too much information and waaaay to many piles of crap that need to be folded, to find the 'special' pieces. We're not sure, but we fear that these neat little collaborations get lost in the piles of other jumpers and other tshirts and other billowy tops that the retailer stocks in the first place. We suppose that's fitting though--if you can't decipher the collaboration from the Free People offer, what's the point in caring that they be separate and tidy within the shop anyway. On that note, let's forget all about Urban Oufitters and just shop the real Grey Ant collection--it's marked down to an Urban Outfitters price point which kind of solves all of our problems right here and now.

Mostly Holes

We have been leading up to a lace filled fall for some time now.
We have been leading up to a lace filled fall for some time now. Community member, Style...A Work In Progress has been scouring ecommerce land for the best buys and a few delightful remarks such as this quote from Mary Wilson "it is difficult to see why lace should be so expensive, its mostly holes." We have already established just how this particular material makes so much sense in the here and now so it's interesting to note the trickling appearance of fall deliveries and just how they work with this precious textile. We in particular like the nearly ubiquitous appearance of the practically cliché black lace granny dress. Everyone from Derek Lam to Phillip Lim has one. The dowdy staple brings somehow manages to evoke sexual fetishization and the appearance of frugality, all while suggesting that aren't we naughty for thinking its either. With the pressure to remain practical in a recession that just begs us to remember the precious its going to be an interesting season indeed for lace. Its just too bad the first inklings of the buy are so damn boring. But we are willing to bet its going to sell very well indeed, its so easy to justify the purchase when really its mostly holes anyway.

Grey Ant is also poised to collaborate with the retailer, with a collection called Grey Antics. Yesterday, we brought you the look book from Rapscallion, Samantha Pleet's collection for the retailer. We don't blame you if you can't keep these straight, we're totally overwhelmed ourselves. It looks like that Dior collection everyone loved so much is an example that, even in a recession, beautiful clothing can be sold to uber-rich consumers. Christian Dior Couture increased in sales by five percent in the first half. The Christian Dior Group, who partially owns LVMH in addition to Christian Dior Haute Couture, also saw overall profits rise. The six covers for Pop magazine's September issue have been released via their MySpace page and the cover models are Naomi Campbell, Natalia Vodianova, Jourdan Dunn, Agyness Deyn, Amber Valletta, and newcomer Oluchi Onweagba (who is, pictured, stunning). We mention this only because the models are dressed in Prada's Fall 08--what is swiftly becoming the most significant offering from the season. The London Fashion Week schedule is out! Our favorite trilogy? Monday September 15th when we'll bring you Luella, Marios Schwab, and Temperley London back to back. Only five weeks until New York Fashion Week kicks off which means there are exactly five weeks left of summer. We recommend throwing on a baseball t-shirt and shorts and soaking up these last few weeks of calm summer recreation.
