South Africa Gets a Little Taste of Jourdan Dunn

Forget Jack White, Karen Elson Has a Voice of Her Own

>> Karen Elson has plenty of projects these days — her modeling work, raising two young children, opening that vintage store in Nashville — but when Zooey Deschanel came through Tennessee with her band She & Him a couple of weeks ago, Karen joined her onstage for a resounding edition of "The Tennessee Waltz."  The two have previously appeared together in Sarah Sophie Flicker's short film Lay Down Lean, and seem to run in the same Erin Fetherston-Leith Clark circles.

What more can you ask from a Friday afternoon than bags & beauty?
What more can you ask from a Friday afternoon than bags & beauty? We couldn't agree more, and you'll see why in today's Must Read posts from: Trust Your Style admits to being a beauty product addict. With the amount of unique products on the market, we can't blame her. She selects her favorite products from around the bath & beauty market. Ma Pettie Chou chases structured bags for fall. Various respected brands are jumping on the trend, and perhaps you should be too. How many beauty products do you carry around on a daily bassi, and of those, how many do you need? So Loverly gives us a peek into her daily beauty essentials. Senora Cartera lures us to fall for YSL's Majorelle bag, despite the price tag. The design might make you thing old lady, but don't be fooled by the bag's classy exterior. What's Haute believes in keeping it simple with Chloe's Joan bag. The Joan is a large bucket shoulder bag which is fully capable of holding all your essentials.
Anna Piaggi

>> INSIDER WIREAnna Piaggi's silhouette is as synonymous with hats as Isabella Blow's was.  Every time she thinks, "Mamma mia! I have nothing to wear!" Stephen Jones will send her a sketch — if only that was the norm.  But her favorite chapeau, at left, has been around, she admits: "I'm thinking of throwing it a 20th birthday party next year." Ryan McGinley Wrangles Himself Some Ad Controversy

>> Ryan McGinley may have just earned a starring role in the Fall 2008 Gap campaign, but it's a set of ads he photographed that is wagging tongues right now.

>> Ryan McGinley may have just earned a starring role in the Fall 2008 Gap campaign, but it's a set of ads he photographed that is wagging tongues right now.

The campaign is for Wrangler, and captures girls and guys wearing nothing but jeans, acting one with nature under the theme "We Are Animals."  So far, it sounds pretty textbook McGinley — unclothed young things, cavorting around fields and streams — but the issue comes from two specific images, which to some suggest "highly disturbing" "murdered corpses."

Seems Ryan is well on his way to being the more-in-tune-with-nature version of Terry Richardson. In fact, considering that this campaign is running in France, don't be surpised if it garners him a Vogue Paris editorial or two — this pushing of the envelope seems right up Carine's alley.

Comme des Garcons for H&M: Hardly Dotty

>> When it was announced that Rei Kawakubo would be lending her Comme des Garcons aesthetic to H&M this fall, questions were raised, specifically: Would the avant-garde Comme look be compromised in translation by the mass retailer?

>> When it was announced that Rei Kawakubo would be lending her Comme des Garcons aesthetic to H&M this fall, questions were raised, specifically: Would the avant-garde Comme look be compromised in translation by the mass retailer?

"Certainly we're opposite," Kawakubo told W Magazine of the project. "But . . . this idea of collaborating with designers—that’s something I can identify with."

Based on the until now unseen pictures of the collaboration, the signature Comme deconstructed jackets, dropped-crotch pants, polka dots, and predominantly black palette are all there.  But compared to the more mainstream sensibilities of past H&M collaborators — Stella McCartney, Karl Lagerfeld, and Roberto Cavalli, with the exception being Viktor & Rolf — this line is definitely a departure.  That's not to say it won't still create a frenzy . . . the crowd may just be a little different than in the past.
