In her editor's letter, Anna Wintour informs us that Vogue is taking this recession v. v. seriously and has edited 'the collections with value for money in mind.' So we get a two-pager on Fendi's new 24K fur and pictures of unsmiling socialites wearing couture in their drawing rooms, with small children and pets as the usual props.

Chanel Iman Helps Tyra Banks Carry on the Vogue Italia Legacy

>> Good news: that July 2008 Vogue Italia?  It's still resounding — and not just on the covers of other magazines.  Today, one of the Vogue Italia stars, Tyra Banks, taped an episode of The Tyra Banks Show on West 26th Street in New York celebrating black models of the past and present in honor of the Vogue Italia "Black Issue." Joining her and voicing first-hand accounts of their industry experience were Chanel Iman, Beverly Johnson, Noemie Lenoir, and Pat Cleveland.  I'm not usually a big fan of the show, but this episode — which airs Sept.

Coutorture Community's Must Reads 8/12

Shoes have become the necessary weakness for many women.
Shoes have become the necessary weakness for many women. You need them to get by, you always want them to be stunning, and most of them end up looking incredibly similar. The next big thing in footwear may be contained in today's Must Read posts from: Fashion Copious offer a closer look at shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood. This designer's innovation all comes from a keen eye for detail. Another of our Network Partners, The Shoe Goddess, sings the praises of Nicholas Kirkwood. She selected a style which features a snakeskin heel detail, which we're on the fence about. What do you think? Socially responsible and chic bags by Andrea Bruckner have caught the eye of Stained Couture. Her New York produced handbags are sure to make any savvy shopper swoon. Vanilla candied peaches are all Makeup and Beauty Blog can smell. Pretty packaging can have an expensive price. Bunnyshop admits to a common problem: discerning between pre-Fall and actual Fall clothing in terms of daytime temperatures. Our love for Fall clothing is quickly accelerating out of hand.

Gap

Karlie Kloss, Jourdan Dunn, and Vogue's Celebrity Intern Do Face Time for Gap Fall 2008

>> Although Gap is having a little trouble these days —the brand just cut their entire European design team and were overtaken by Zara as the world's biggest retailer — all bets are still on executive VP of design Patrick Robinson, whose first full Gap collection debuts this Fall.
Karlie Kloss

>> Although Gap is having a little trouble these days —the brand just cut their entire European design team and were overtaken by Zara as the world's biggest retailer — all bets are still on executive VP of design Patrick Robinson, whose first full Gap collection debuts this Fall. It is he who chose the likes of Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Georgina Chapman, Cecilia Dean, and Scott Schuman to front Gap's Fall 2008 campaign, proving he really is trying to bring fashion back to the company.

Can Mikael Jansson's shots of those four, Ryan McGinley, Karlie Kloss, Sean Avery, Jourdan Dunn, and more, plus Patrick's new designs, make the difference for Gap?  Only time will tell, but until then, enjoy the rest of the Fall campaign.

Coco Rocha

Style.com Gets Faster, Better, Stronger for Fashion Week(s)

>> It's t-minus three weeks until the Spring 2009 fashion weeks get under way, and Style.com is getting ready to kick it into high gear.

>> It's t-minus three weeks until the Spring 2009 fashion weeks get under way, and Style.com is getting ready to kick it into high gear.

Come the beginning of September, Candy Pratts Price won't be the only one with an avatar on the site — Lily Donaldson, Margherita Missoni, Chanel Iman, Jefferson Hack, Leigh Lezark, and Tinsley Mortimer are all signed on to provide front row play-by-play during fashion month, earning themselves each their own — hopefully cartoon — avatar.  If that isn't enough for you, Coco Rocha will also be playing video reporter from the tents and backstage during New York Fashion Week.

And this one is for all of you who hate waiting until midnight for all the runway slideshows to be posted: Style.com editor in chief Dirk Standen promises the images will be published faster thanks to updated technology, and viewers will have the option to see the shows in a full-screen format.
