Who Said The Print Is Dead? Uh, No One.

We're pretty sure it would be the end of fashion as we know it if the print were, in fact, dead.
We're pretty sure it would be the end of fashion as we know it if the print were, in fact, dead. That's kind of like saying that pants are dead or shoes are dead. Last time we checked, no one was trying to make this world a monochromatic one. We kid, sort of. So another trend gallery has been made (we love how fast it is for online publications to whip these us when the glossies take an entire month and by then you're like, "Uh, yeah. I'm completely aware that harem pants are in style") declaring the print officially not dead. It's a revelation people. Listen, there are ways to make this more specific (and thereby meaningful). First we could articulate which prints are still alive and which are 'dead'. We could also articulate just where the prints are living, because this is not the same season after season. That said, one thing we've noticed, after organizing our wardrobe this weekend (It was a true nightmare--arms were nearly lost.), is that on the side of the closet where delicate tanks, skirts, and frocks live; the prints are in abundance. One the other side of the closet, where the jeans are stacked and long sleeve blouses hung, the palette is almost entirely a solid one. Say what? How did this happen? We're hoping we're not the only one's who tend to veer towards the solids when it comes to winter separates and get kind of print-astic when it's warm outside. Below, some print options for those of us who subconsciously print on a bias (hehe).

Marc by Marc Jacobs Brushed Twill Cropped Pant

Whoa there, three-hundred-and-twenty-eight dollar hammer pants.

Whoa there, three-hundred-and-twenty-eight dollar hammer pants. We love you. We love you because you sold out all summer from the various designers that decided to make you and now, in the wee hours of fall, you've delivered from a designer we trust and at a price we can afford. We promise we will try not to cheat on you.

These slouchy brushed twill trousers will probably sell out in a week or two, unless, because it's Shopbop, they miraculously sit there for a month. But seriously, we're guessing fashionistas worldwide have caught onto this trend by now. Judging by the fit on the model, these trousers run big. She is probably wearing a zero but, even though they are meant to billow, they still look kind of gigantic on her (the waist should be tighter, no?). So, ladies, that means if you wear a size 26 jean (and not a 24) you should probably still by the size zero, and so on. Oh, just when we thought we were going to die from fashion-starvation, we find these goodies. Looks like we'll survive August after all.

Our favorite designer crush, Adam Lippes, is going to start blogging on his website.
Our favorite designer crush, Adam Lippes, is going to start blogging on his website. We caught wind that there was a position open at the site and we're wondering if this new hire hasn't convinced the team that blogging is the way to go. Either way, we are super excited to read Adam's fashion musings, alongside other members from his team. The blogging starts Monday. Jil Sander might be for sale which, in our experience, is just a politically correct way of saying it is for sale. Change Capital Partners, who acquired the company from Prada in 2006, is tired of waiting for critical acclaim to catch up with profits. Since CCP has acquired the brand, however, profits have gone from decreasing annually to breaking even and some say the next leg of the journey need be started by a acquisition. We just died and went to swimwear heaven. Hayden Harnett, who we've reported is launching swimwear and footwear for Spring 09, has released some images. After all of those orange bodies and belly button rings we saw during Miami swim, we have to say, this is our idea of beach goddess. It comes as no surprise that a Brooklyn-based design team honed in on our discomfort with the typical swim look. After one pair of acetate frames pushed J.Crew from WASP to hipster, the flood gates have opened. The brand, apparently, is going about selling vintage Rolex watches on their website. Refinery 29 reports that Steven Alan already did that and we're going let stew the idea that J.Crew is carving out two aesthetic spaces for themselves without having to sacrifice anything. There is the J.Crew we know via The Mall and the J.Crew we know via The Internet and these two companies, though they are one, are becoming increasingly distinct.

Coutorture Community's Morning Must Reads 7/29

When the Summer days become long and sweltering, we look to fashion to distract us from the mundane.
When the Summer days become long and sweltering, we look to fashion to distract us from the mundane. We promise today's Must Read posts will spice up even the most mundane of days. It can be difficult to pull yourself out of a beauty routine, but Karina XOXO pulls away from her Vaseline addiction to discover something new. With 10% shea butter, she doesn't feel bad for switching to L'Occitane's lip balm. The stillness of late Summer has The Adventures of an Urban Socialite searching for distraction. Lemonstory, designed by Anna Kim, provides a classic fashionable distraction. Nessasary Makeup just couldn't help herself when she visited her local MAC counter to check out the latest launch. She ended up nearly the whole collection, but don't worry, she was generous enough to swatch them all for us. After a few seasons at Fashion Week and attempting to haul our laptops around the city without looking like slobs, no one understands the need for a chic laptop bag better than the Coutorture gals. Ask The Style Chefs comes to our rescue (and a reader's) recommending a bevy of stylish options. Fall's makeup is shaping up to be dark and mysterious, so it's no surprise that Shu Umera's Fall collection is entitled "Instinct". Now that your appetite has been whet, head over to Beauty Anonymous for full collection details and photos.

Is He or Isn't He? Marc Jacobs, Married?

>> Late last week, Fashionista got a tip that Marc Jacobs was to be married this past weekend in Paris to his Brazilian beau of three months, Lorenzo Martone.  However, the designer was confirmed to be at the Louis Vuitton offices in Paris earlier today by a member of the brand's press office, and working doesn't seem very much like typical newlywed behavior.  In fact, the LV rep told Fashion Week Daily: "They're just rumors.

However, the designer was confirmed to be at the Louis Vuitton offices in Paris earlier today by a member of the brand's press office, and working doesn't seem very much like typical newlywed behavior.  In fact, the LV rep told Fashion Week Daily: "They're just rumors. There's no truth to it at all." And Marc Jacobs' New York rep sang the same tune: "Marc did not get married — nor does he have any plans to."

Same-sex marriage is not currently legal in France, but civil unions known as PACS, which can bring some rights to same-sex couples, are allowed. Word is that Marc and Lorenzo did host a brunch yesterday in Paris to "celebrate their relationship," and are off to Ibiza together in August. No word, however, as to whether that celebration was a marriage and the Ibiza trip is a honeymoon, or if they're just a simple party and vacation.

Anna Wintour

>> INSIDER WIRE —Just like Naomi Campbell, Anna Wintour's got a new billionaire sugar daddy on her hands: Evgeny Lebedev, who donated the largest sum ever — $500,000 — to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund last week.  Who knows where his generosity to fashion will take him next; He's already partnered with Jefferson Hack to produce a Russian edition of Dazed & Confused.
