Our Network Helps You Accessorize

Leave it to the bloggers in our Network to keep your extras in check.

Leave it to the bloggers in our Network to keep your extras in check. While scoping out today's postings we noticed a few tricks and deals our Coutorture readers will surely be keen on. To start, Bunny Shop has a special promotion code that will get you 25% off all non-sale items at Fred Flare. That includes the irresistible, albeit slightly retro cum retro, three-pack of red, white, and blue wayfarers. They were twenty dollars and now, with the discount, they're sixteen. Perfect Fourth of July party favor? Quite possibly. Bunnyshop is also running a contest to give away a Jocasi handbag if your fashion question elicits the most comments.

Also on the accessories front, this time in terms of styling is Style Bakery. Alison, the blogger with all of the outfit answers, gives advice on what belting works with a simple cotton frock. Her cobalt and silver product spread has us thinking of putting together a belted number for dinner tonight, so sharp are her choices for the reader that sought her advice.

Also on our radar, after a Style Bubble shoutout on the same topic yesterday, is DIY hosiery. The Coveted, inspired by the recent Christian Lacroix Haute Couture runway show, dip-died her drug store tights for the gradient look she's long been aware of but only now indulging in. In her post she teaches you how to recreate the look making us think, at this point, someone could carve out a pretty successful space dedicated strictly to DIY hosiery tips.

For The Gal Whose Not Really Feeling High Waisted Shorts

Lyell's raw high-waisted denim shorts will change all that.

Lyell's raw high-waisted denim shorts will change all that. We'll be the first to admit, at this stage in the game, these shorts are hard to come by. They're definitely sold out at the Lyell shop in New York. We spotted a size 4 in Williamsburg the other day, Satine has a size 8, and the rest, chicsters, is a matter of tracking them down. There's got to be a couple of size runs left in the world and we'll tell you right now--these shorts are the most flattering pair we've found, they're well worth the fight. Even hiked up way-above your belly button the inseam allows for coverage on your thighs (just say no to hot shorts) and the dark raw denim also make for a slimming silhouette. This makes sense because, as we know, a Lyell sort of girl is one who weighs just enough to be called 'slim' but not so little that she has to skip desert (i.e. many of us). Fletcher has used this same denim in a pair of wide leg jeans we've yet to road-test but, judging by similarities, we're guessing they're a thumbs up as well. Ladies, go get those last pairs. You can wear them on the Fourth of July. You can say you did it for America.

Fashion In 50 Seconds 7/1/08

Cathy Horyn writes a wrap up of the menswear shows in Milan and Paris.
Cathy Horyn writes a wrap up of the menswear shows in Milan and Paris. She, like many of us, saw the ultra-feminine embellishments and silhouettes to be kind of old news. She does commend, however, Comme des Garcon and, in particular, Raf Simons. She writes,"But how much of this stuff actually means anything or has a chance of changing our eye? That’s what Mr. Simons does, now more sharply than ever." The first women's collection out of the gates from design house Thierry Mulger proved to be a bit too conservative in an effort to start out slow. Among the 15 pieces that made up this first collection were lean suiting and body skimming jersey pieces. Perhaps it's better to go unnoticed when relaunching a line, however, we can't help but make the analogy of the wild, dangerous boyfriend who comes crawling back on his hands and knees. The online ladies at the website that refuses to be titled in accordance with its respective magazine, Style.com, have put together a summer reading list for fashion obsessives. A funny quip leading you into the list reads, "...and we don't mean US Weekly" (well said, ladies) followed by a nice click-generating shortlist of titles from Proust to Hemingway. Although we fail to see a strong connection between The Old Man And The Sea and the plight of a modern fashionista, we appreciate their encouraging women to put down the beach books that so inhibit their ability to think about fashion as it was pre-The Devil Wears Prada days. If you fancy yourself an Anna Wintour-obsessive, and defend your beach books that dish all the inside gossip, then perhaps you'd like to know which editors have been attending which couture shows and, gasp, where they are staying. This is about at US Weekly as we get, here is the link.
