Windswept Natasha Poly Blows Nina Ricci Fall 2008 Out of the Water

>> After going with up-and-coming models for Fall 2007 and Spring 2008, Olivier Theyskens has pulled out the big guns, making a splash for Fall 2008 with Natasha Poly.  The stop-action, hair flipping shots definitely help achieve Olivier's goal of transforming the romantic label into one with more edge.

If these images by Mario Sorrenti don't sell the brand, I don't know what will.

Acetate Frames: Shades Report

Clear shades are popular with the fashion folk this summer.

Clear shades are popular with the fashion folk this summer. Hardly a day goes by that we don't see a pair of acetates staring back out at us. For Fall acetate frames will still be around, but in the form of eyeglasses (we're down with going it seventh grade style and wearing them even if you don't require them), our pick in that regard is the Selima pair for J. Crew. Alas, we are still in shades weather and in that regard the Nicole 002 by Benjamin Eyewear takes the cake (left). Forget looking like the Terminator with thick all-black shades, the acetate trend is letting the real thing show-off (i.e. your face!). If you're stuck in between two worlds, Wayfarer put out a two-tone number that we've seen a few chicsters sporting. We think the two-tone kind of makes you look like your eighty years old but in a good way. Also on our radar is this pair, by Grey Ant. The case these shades come in is as big as a briefcase but the shades are pretty amazing and aptly named, The Status Sunglasses. If you can't be asked to drop some dough, Urban Outfitters has a pair of acetate shades for less than it costs to fill up your tank (minus a million).

Fashion In 50 Seconds 7/18/08

Karl Lagerfeld will launch a new trio of fragrances, called Kapsule, this Fall.
Karl Lagerfeld will launch a new trio of fragrances, called Kapsule, this Fall. The three separate fragrances can be worn separately or together (see the capsule reference) and are unisex. Slick, angular bottles originate from Lagerfeld's 'love of geometry'. Berlin Fashion Week kicked off yesterday and the themes, after just a few shows, are emerging. For Spring 09, from Berlin, influences from the 1920's and 1960's stood out in addition to Joop's futuristic usage of textiles. The Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation has added a new category to its awards. The Sustainable Design Award will ask both men's and womenswear designs to excel in three elements of sustainability. Namely, environment, social equity, and economic viability. Despite an economic downturn and waning consumer confidence a nine billion dollar luxury condominum/retail centre will be erected in Las Vegas. The best architects, interior designers, and retailers will be included in the project.

Coutorture Community's Morning Must Reads 7/18

Our heads are spinning (and not just from last night's Lambrusco!) from all of the sweet tip-offs our community can conjure in a single day.

Our heads are spinning (and not just from last night's Lambrusco!) from all of the sweet tip-offs our community can conjure in a single day.

First off, Cuffington give us the low-down on the ultimate magazine shop (it's all about the imports) located in Portland, Oregon. In her words, "Rich's is in PORTLAND, Oregon, USA, people. If you don't live there, no need to hit the panic button, just dust off that rotary phone and give them a jingle. They'll probably be able to ship something to you.". Consider our interest piqued.

Clothes-Pin, meanwhile, posted a few shots of Yumi Kim's most recent offerings. We'd nearly forgotten about the designer after a seriously overpriced sample sale left a bad taste in our mouths. Alas, women do love those silk jewel toned shifts.

Something we love to take a gander at on a Friday morning is an effortless display of skinnies and mocks. Sure, it's no Yves Saint Laurent smoking suit, but it still kind of makes us excited for lazy Fall days when you can drink a cappuccino without being drenched in sweat. This, from Painfully Hip.

And last but not least, Shiny Squirrel clues us in to some toned down contemporary line called Eple and Melk that totally suits our fashion mood as of late. That is these duds are colorless, light as air, brandless visions of chic (right). This blogger is a mind reader.
