model moments

>> Since Carine Roitfeld was one of the co-chairs for the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala, it's no surprise the models showed up in droves: Lily Donaldson (in Balmain), Natalia Vodianova (in Valentino), Milla Jovovich (in Louis Vuitton), Eva Herzigova (in Dolce & Gabbana), and Natasha Poly (in Roberto Cavalli) were all in attendance.  Although this isn't the first Cannes-related event for most of these ladies, notice how most of them rank high on Carine's favorites list, especially Lily and Natasha.  Also, wow Lily, legs for days!

it's her birthday and she'll cry if she wants to

>> Naomi Campbell always knows how to keep good company: the man who she showed up to the Che Premiere in Cannes with yesterday, Christopher Rocancourt, was convicted of posing as a Rockefeller and swindling people out of $1.3 million just five years ago.  It hasn't been a good couple of days for Naomi, who turns 38 today — she was seen this evening looking upset aboard Diddy's yacht while celebrating her birthday .

babes in balmain

>> The Fall 2008 Balmain collection is getting some serious wear — Christophe Decarnin should be proud.  Lake Bell wore the lightning bolt dress to the Costume Institute Gala, the one-shouldered black and silver dress has had a number of wearers, and now Carine Roitfeld and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld have broken out in full Fall Balmain for the amfAR Gala.  Julia, like everyone else and their mom, must love her YSL Tributes — she wore them yesterday too.

>> Wow, fashion keeps getting faster and faster.  Take a good look, this is your first peek at a piece from Spring 2009 — already!  Four months before it's scheduled to hit Stella McCartney's catwalk, Madonna debuts the coral satin dress today at the amfAR Gala in Cannes.Who wants to bet we'll see it in knockoff stores before it ever makes it to the runway?

musings

>>  The time is right for paying homage to model muses, it seems.  Karl Lagerfeld recently dedicated an entire book to photos of Brad Kroenig, and now photographer Paolo Roversi is showing an entire exhibit of work produced with his muse of 12 years, Guinevere van Seenus.   The two met through Guinevere's agent when she had just started working in Paris, and they still collaborate to this day — the duo just shot a story for W.
