Fassonaburu Shoutout: Lillies of The Valley

Spring may be the most cliché laden of the seasons.
Spring may be the most cliché laden of the seasons. Its hard not to wax poetic about the rebirth and renewal of the Earth when you have been slogging through mud, slush or just plain gray days for months on end. Even the least connected of mankind feels a sense of hope. Fassonaburu's longing for a James Perse full length tank dress for tip toeing around the tulips triggered an impulse in us to go browsing for long lean day dresses as the weather warms. This of course naturally landed us smack dab in the middle of Rick Owen's lilies collection to find his perfect jersey tube dress.
And it was there we realized just how much the collection speaks to our own hidden hopes and dreams for spring. Light, draped, and worn fabric hints at the struggles of surviving darker days. A less designer would have gone for color, but his somber pallet of grays makes us that much more hopeful. The light fabrics and the dark colors have us dreaming of misty mornings before perfect spring days. We leave you with our favorite spring ditty. We imagine ourselves clothed in Rick Owens traisping through our garden as dawn hits looking for fairies and loving the slender lilies both on ourselves and in the ground.
White coral bells upon a slender stalk Lillies of the valley grace my garden walk Oh how I wish that you could hear them ring That will only happen when the fairies sing.

Biolage

Booster Shot

The idea of Spring conjures images of sunny days and fresh flowers.

The idea of Spring conjures images of sunny days and fresh flowers. Those with finer hair have a darker fate as the days get longer, and tresses become oil laden as the result of humid conditions. Professional hair care companies have developed treatments to remedy oily scalps, but those tend to be as messy as they are inefficient. Matrix, the company behind Biolage, recognized the need for a targeted solution that both volumizes and minimizes oily hair.

Part of the scalpthérapie line of products, the Biolage Oil Control Treatment is used similarly to other root targeted volumizing solutions. Scalpthérapie utilizes the oil absorption properties of mint extract to efficiently eliminate a generous amount of oil. The scent is minty fresh, and your scalp tingles ever so slightly after application.

The Oil Control Treatment performed best when used at the end of the workday to revitalize our tired style. It didn't rejuvenate our second day hair as much as we had hoped, though in fairness our hair is generally oily to the point of no return. It is possible to over use this product, but the problem is quickly remedied with a blow dryer. After testing this product, we realized it's a Spring/Summer necessity for anyone with the slightest hint of fine or oily hair. Make room in those handbags ladies, this product is a keeper.

L.A. Fashion Week: Recapping The Rest

We brought you our picks from the first few days of L.A.

We brought you our picks from the first few days of L.A. Fashion Week, and now that the week has commenced, here's our roundup of the rest. From Wednesday through Friday a dozen or so designers showed their West Coast versions of Fall 08, and our favorites among them were DDC LAB and Ashleigh Paige. Los Angeles Fashion Week isn't something we have a whole lot to say about but there are a few designers who deserve a little extra recognition. This season, DDC LAB for innovation and Ashleigh Paige for costumery. Funnily enough, these designers showed Fall 08 from the two Los Angeles angles we actually can relate to, namely environmental awareness and old hollywood glamour.

DDC LAB: Designers Roberto Crivello and Savania Davies Keiller showed their DDC Lab Fall 08 collection during L.A. Fashion Week. The draw of their collection, given the basic aesthetic, is in their innovation with fabric and functionality. Blazers that block UV rays, charge your mobile phone, or are otherwise made from environmentally friendly textiles like cork, make for a simple but intelligent statement. The mens and womenswear line for Fall 08 was utility based with that sort of Diesel aesthetic that appeals to twenty somethings who like their fashion simple, modern, and heavy on charcoal and black. Ashleigh Paige: This Fall 08 season Ashleigh Paige showed her Fall 08 collection and convinced Los Angeles that what might be considered 'high end lingerie' is more accurately 'couture swimwear'. The delicate ensembles have questionable authority when it comes to actually submerging oneself in water but, as we know, not every bathing suit donning fashionista likes to swim in the first place. Some, that is, like to lounge under umbrellas with a good book. Swimsuits lined or not, Paige does an excellent job of vamping up your average underthings and giving them that old hollywood appeal that is highly classy however marketable.
