Why is Coco Rocha Wearing a Wig?

>> Last week, Coco Rocha showed up to the Chanel-sponsored Winter Wonderland Ball with nary a hair out of place, ready to tape her newest video interview installment for Style.com.  Upon closer inspection, however, there was something astray — the matting of a wig was visible at her part.  A couple of weeks before, she attended the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund awards wearing a head-encompassing scarf.  Granted, she was milliner nominee Albertus Swanepoel's date, and the scarf was his creation, but something still seemed a bit off, especially when paired with this cryptic (or perhaps joking) comment: "I had to come with Albertus because Vogue has rights on my hair until next month’s issue."

Rewind back to the Nov. 3 ACE Awards, and Coco had neither headcovering nor wig — so did Vogue ask Coco to do something crazy with her hair?  She appears in the December 2008 issue, but as Romeo's paramour Juliet, so no dramatic haircut there.  Perhaps she was referring to the January 2009 issue?  Or is something else going on?  Hopefully she's not ill.  She is about to take off for two months on a lengthy vacation — is there an ulterior motive there?

>> THE ZEITGEIST —We've seen legions of "it" bags and "it" shoes, but Raf Simons may have started a new phenomenon — "it" earrings.  The spear-like earrings he created for Jil Sander's Damiani collaboration elicited covetousness as soon as they hit the runway, but now that they're available ($4,500-$10,000, natch), the gushing is back.  Style.com is "now coveting" the pieces, Interview "love[s] the clean lines," and NY Magazine says they "exceeded our every expectation."

Carine Roitfeld Talks Lara Stone-Dedicated Issue

>> Vogue Paris's most recent issue brought us Terry Richardon's pinup-laden 2009 calendar, and as rumored, come February we will indeed be seeing a whole lotta Lara Stone — 100-plus pages worth.A couple of weeks ago at the Vogue Paris calendar launch party, Carine Roitfeld spilled all kinds of details about what we have to look forward to: "February is an entire issue with Lara Stone and the cover line is Et Vogue Créa Lara."  The influence is Roger Vadim's 1956 Brigitte Bardot classic Et Dieu .

A couple of weeks ago at the Vogue Paris calendar launch party, Carine Roitfeld spilled all kinds of details about what we have to look forward to: "February is an entire issue with Lara Stone and the cover line is Et Vogue Créa Lara."  The influence is Roger Vadim's 1956 Brigitte Bardot classic Et Dieu . . . créa la femme — Lara has often garned Bardot comparisons — and will include shoots by Inez van Lamsweerde, Peter Lindbergh, Hedi Slimane, Nan Goldin, and Steven Klein.

Granted, Lara is known to be one of Carine's favorite models, but fans are just happy to hear Lara speak, so why an entire issue?  "Lara had almost stopped working so I decided I wanted to make her a star," the VP editor explained.

Yves Saint Laurent

>> INSIDER WIRE —To say art collection was a love affair for Yves Saint Laurent would be an understatement.  He amassed 800 some-odd lots that Christie's will be auctioning in February — with an estimated $400 million return — including two drama-inducing Qing-dynasty bronze heads (the Chinese government considers them stolen; YSL's partner Pierre Berge told them he would gladly return the imperial pieces to China for $60 million).  YSL and Berge amassed so much because they “decided in five minutes” and “never questioned the price of anything,” according to one dealer they worked with.  They got to the point where a Degas had to be hung next to the toilet.  But the collection was an obsession — before one of Yves's last runway shows, he came to a dealer in desperation: “He was in terrible shape.

He could hardly speak.  Yves said, ‘I’m so stressed! I’m out of ideas! I need to see beautiful things!’ And he left with two gold boxes in his pocket. He absolutely needed them as a fix.”  A visual tour of the goods. [Vanity Fair]

Beth Ditto To Grace First Cover of Love?

>> Some of Katie Grand's nearest and dearest — Giles Deacon, Agyness Deyn, Alexander McQueen — came out to the Royal Academy in London last night to celebrate the first-ever party for her new magazine Love.  Guests sipped tea and participated in a treasure hunt, but the night's big attention-getter was Beth Ditto — she's rumored to be Love's first cover star.  No confirmation yet — but a good space to watch might be the magazine's under-the-radar blog, which so far chronicles the move to a new office, visits to showrooms, and Giles holding scotch eggs over his eyes.*image: source

Alexander Wang, whose Fall sample sale kicks off today, showed a Pre-Fall 2009 collection which paid homage to Tom Ford during his Gucci days.
