New York boutique and all around arbiter of style, Opening Ceremony, have just launched their newest geographic concentration on the retail floor--namely, Japan. If you're not yet familiar with the brands Sabatino, Toga, Beauty + Youth, or Casio Nude don't fret, that's why they started this practice in the first place. For the Fall 08 season these designers will live alongside brands like Peter Jensen (London), Acne (Stockholm), and Rodarte (Pasadena) and will seep into our fashion lexicon just as the now-recognizable names did years ago.

Fall Shopping: The Colored Cardigan

There's nothing better to brighten a wardrobe or liven up an outfit than a solid colored cardigan--As far as we're concerned, this piece of advice never goes out of style.

There's nothing better to brighten a wardrobe or liven up an outfit than a solid colored cardigan--As far as we're concerned, this piece of advice never goes out of style. Keep a few pop colors in your closet and you'll see how anything--from a worn-in vintage t-shirt, to a black and white striped tunic, can be seen in a different light. If you feel like your outfit is too safe, this never fails as the finishing touch that can make all the difference. Find a style you like and, by all means, stock up in every color.

Retail Happenings: The Metal Shop

Here's a pop-up concept with a little more depth than just collaboration t-shirts and last season's overstock--The Metal Shop, opening in New York this Thursday, will host a variety of designers with the theme of metals in mind.

Here's a pop-up concept with a little more depth than just collaboration t-shirts and last season's overstock--The Metal Shop, opening in New York this Thursday, will host a variety of designers with the theme of metals in mind. Michael Kors, Helmut Lang, and Patrik Ervell are among designers included in the pop-up which will appear at participating designer, Issey Miyake's Tribeca retail space. The pop-up is being curated in conjunction with The Metal Ball, an event inspired by the legendary Bauhaus Metallic Festival and held in the wake of Performa's 2006 White On White Party. The Bauhaus School was once decorated entirely in metallic colors and it is the aim of the Performa sponsored Ball and resulting pop-up store to once again celebrate that, well, celebration. Just in time for the holidays too...

Cheap Monday is releasing a limited edition pair of jeans with the help of Barneys--the jeans, and their "Increase The Peace" insignia, will be sold only tomorrow, on election day, at the Barneys stores. We're guessing a lot of people will 'swing by' after casting their vote, no one gets a free twenty-minute break from work without bending the rules a little bit.

Adidas is launching a sportswear line (as in American clothing not running gear) this Fall 09 called SLVR. The collection will be launched during New York Fashion Week in February complete with a fashion show and retail space opening. A few weeks later the same thing will occur during Paris Fashion Week, and, after that, the subsequent roll out of other stores and wholesale accounts.

Designer Matthew Williamson is set to relaunch his diffusion line for British retailer Debenhams, after a two year hiatus from his post there. Julien Macdonald and Jasper Conran currently design diffusion lines for the high street retailer as well.

Fortunately, in New York, not everyone at the glossies is losing their jobs. Here's the official record of those who haven't.
