TOMS Sets A Holiday Goal

We will be candid here and say that when we watched this video we literally started crying--we are not only turning into our mothers but we also buying one pair of TOMS for every person in our family this year.

We will be candid here and say that when we watched this video we literally started crying--we are not only turning into our mothers but we also buying one pair of TOMS for every person in our family this year. Even Dad. The TOMS goal is simple; sell 30,000 pairs of shoes, give 30,000 pairs of shoes and we can't help but get teary-eyed at just how much of an impact fifty dollars can make. Not only does your purchase matter very much to the world but the pair of shoes you get in return, well, we can put our fashion stamp on quite easily. Christmas shopping, done.

Vena Cava Does The Trick

While shopping for a frock to wear a friend's wedding we realized just how tricky the task can be--it shouldn't be white, nor should it be loud.

While shopping for a frock to wear a friend's wedding we realized just how tricky the task can be--it shouldn't be white, nor should it be loud. It shouldn't be short, nor should it be as long as the bride's. It has to be something you would want to wear again but it has to feel like something special enough to wear on someone's big day. The limitations had us overwhelmed. Until, that is, we saw Vena Cava through our wedding dress lens. We realize that theirs is the aesthetic that fits every requirement perfectly. Soft and romantic, mid-length frocks in a beautiful array of natural colors--there couldn't be a more perfect brand for this occasion. We ended up with the Taj dress we found on sale at Pas de Deux but these other two frocks were high on our list as well.

Envelope Clutch Love: Catherine Rapetti

We just caught wind of the Catherine Rapetti Spring 2009 collection and had to give a shout out to the envelope clutch in her lineup of handbags and accessories.

We just caught wind of the Catherine Rapetti Spring 2009 collection and had to give a shout out to the envelope clutch in her lineup of handbags and accessories. This sleek shape is one of the only ways in which you can convince us that a clutch has any place in fashion save for black tie happenings. That is, the absence of a strap or handles on a bag can prove inconvenient if your trying to hail a taxi, answer your cell phone, or use the ladies room. This shape though, well, let's just say it comes under the heading of "it might not be convenient but it looks so good I don't care". This bag is generous in size (14" W x 8" H) and retails for $380. Its sleek menswear-referencing look is what really drew us in, and there is evidence to prove that Rapetti's choice of shape will be a popular one come Spring. Just check out these current season examples from Brian Atwood, Maison Martin Margiela, and Loefffler Randall for proof.

Pajama Party Inspired By Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2009

The Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2009 show has us dreaming of silk pajamas and house clothes gone glam.

The Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2009 show has us dreaming of silk pajamas and house clothes gone glam. Although the reference in their collection is explicit, you can interpret the pajama trend with street-appropriate silk garments and slipper-like footwear. We've already reported on the lingerie trend which was big on the Spring 09 catwalks so we guess you could say that Dolce & Gabbana (as is typical of them) took things one step further.

Fashion In 50 Seconds 11/21/08 Bill Blass Closes, Target Collabs, Romeo Gigli's New Line, Holiday Window Madness

Bill Blass New York has stopped taking Spring 09 orders and is liquidating.

Bill Blass New York has stopped taking Spring 09 orders and is liquidating. On October 28th it was officially announced that Peter Som would be parting ways with the company, after a whirlwind of reports that NexCen was in deep financial waters, and news that Som had resigned, back in the spring. As far eulogies go, the New York Times wrote one when they covered Michael Vollbracht's Spring 09 presentation at New York Fashion Week.

Romeo Gigli, Italian designer, will launch a new line called io ipse idem. The designer is famous for coining the term 'cocooning' and was popular in the 1980's when Italian Vogue editor Carla Sozzani helped launch his career.

Two new Target collaborations have been slated in the accessories department. Handbag brand Felix Ray and footwear designer Trish Carroll will both launch diffusion collections this Spring.

New York's window displays have turned out to be as fantastic as ever--despite across the board losses in the retail market. The answer is simple: some cheering up is in order.
