With Galliano you always get a little pomp and circumstance even if his Spring 2009 collection is his most toned down affair in seasons and thus even while he showed a very commercial collection it was still part British Royal Guard, part drunken pirate, and part dowdy British Parliament wife.
An enormous marabou cap and chin strap was there to hide the fact Galliano is actually giving us clothing we can wear now with a simple jacket and skirt combination. Sheer watercolor florals in chiffon made for a kind of sexy but dowdy Parliament wife which can easily be worked into any girl's wardrobe. And then of course there is the plain wacky thanks to enormous pirate hats that if we ever saw anyone wearing we would applaud. The entire collection gave us a bit of a Yes Minister feeling which may be a BBC reference too obscure for most but we wouldn't be surprised if Galliano was a fan of Jim Hacker.
