Claudia Schiffer Kicks Up Her German Heels

Tue, 09/23/08 — 04:31:08 PM

>> She may be the Fall 2008 face of Chanel, but yesterday, Claudia Schiffer traded in her fashion frocks for something a little more . . . traditional. She broke out a dirndl, gathered up some friends, and got back to her German roots at Oktoberfest in Munich.  The new garb is only temporary, though — she's expected at Dolce & Gabbana in Milan on Thursday.

>> THE MODELIZERKate Moss is in Paris right now with Sir Philip Green — does that mean she will show up front row at Paris Fashion Week like she did last week at Vivienne Westwood?  Or maybe she's just in town to get the ball rolling on the new Musée des Arts Décoratifs exhibition she's collaborating on, about — what else — herself? Miuccia Prada Goes Fishing for Crumpled Clothes

Tue, 09/23/08 — 12:46:10 PM

>> A fish pattern on the runway, models slipping in their snakeskin platform shoes . . . Spring 2009 Prada is here. Ymre Stiekema and Katie Fogarty nabbed the show exclusives, and Anouck Lepere even suited up for the occasion. Elvis Presley music provided the soundtrack to the crumpled, rumpled half-skirts and crop tops Miuccia Prada sent down the runway, symbolic of the "primitive" theme she had in mind.  But in the end, Miuccia went for the gold — literally — five brightly gilded dresses ended the show.

>> THE MODELIZER —Is Ymre Stiekema the new Sasha Pivovarova over at Prada?  The 16-year-old Dutch model was chosen to be the face of Prada's Fall 2008 Linea Rossa campaign, and this evening in Milan, she scored an ace in the hole: the coveted Prada Spring 2009 runway exclusive.  Ymre opened the show, while Sigrid Agren closed. Yulia Kharlapanova's Quick Rise . . . And Then Fall

Tue, 09/23/08 — 11:29:18 AM

>> Those Spring 2009 Prada shoes are treacherous. This morning, Russian newcomer Yulia Kharlapanova opened at Jil Sander — and was heralded as "Milan's first star."  But just as fast as doors can open, they can also close; Later on in the day, Yulia stumbled and fell at Prada.  Ouch — of all runways, Prada is not one you want to fall on — it is perhaps the most singularly watched for casting choices and new modelling stars in the making.  A little condolence, Yulia: at least Jessica Stam stumbled, too.

>> INSIDER WIRE —Funny how things work: When Tom Ford left fashion to direct movies, things never fell into place, but now that he's back in fashion, his directorial dreams might just come true.  Ford acquired movie rights to Christopher Isherwood's 1964 novel A Single Man — about a gay college professor who deals with the recent death of his lover — last November, and plans to begin filming in LA this November.  No studio is attached to the project yet, but Julianne Moore, Jamie Bell, and Colin Firth are all in talks to star. Raf Simons Sees the Benefits of Fringe for Jil Sander Spring 2009

Tue, 09/23/08 — 09:04:31 AM

>> Raf Simons is earning raves for his tribal Africa-cum-the 1920s-cum-Man Ray-inspired Spring 2009 Jil Sander collection, and there are no arguments here.  Yulia Kharlapanova opened the parade in a fantastic fringed turtleneck dress, and the fringe details just got better from there — even flowing forth from bags.  The collection may have been void of color, but it was not void of innovation; it also marks the start of a new jewelry licensing deal with Damiani — spikey earrings "that resemble spears with a cluster of diamonds" were previewed on the models' ears.

>> INSIDER WIRE —Talk about good timing.  Just five days after showing her Spring 2009 Temperley collection in London, Alice Temperley gave birth to her first child, Fox London Temperley von Bennigsen Mackiewicz, on Saturday.  Mother and baby boy are said to be doing fine. [WWD]
