Coco Rocha, Lily Donaldson, Hilary Rhoda Get Their Buttons Pushed

Tue, 09/09/08 — 11:01:50 PM

>> The Tents are loaded with plenty of freebies, but these might be the cutest — to go along with Fashion Week's election theme, someone took a page out of Henry Holland's book and printed model slogan campaign buttons for Coco Rocha, Lily Donaldson, Hilary Rhoda, Ali Michael, Jessica Stam, and Agyness Deyn. Apparently, Agyness has been seen wearing Stam's around, and Stam wearing Coco's . . .

>> INSIDER WIRE —Ready for The Devil Wears Prada, the male version?  Because Sean Avery's got you covered. He's working with New Line Cinema to bring his experiences in the fashion world — and at Vogue — to the big screen.  It's even a romcom, just like The Devil Wears Prada was — maybe they'll bring Anne Hathaway back to be "Sean"'s love interest, how like totally cute would that be? Sophie Theallet Thinks in Color for Spring 2009

Tue, 09/09/08 — 09:02:23 PM

>> I've been noticing a more concerted effort by designers to cast models of color this season, but so far, Sophie Theallet takes the cake. For her New York runway debut, the Brooklyn-based Parisian designer sent out an entire cast of black models — Kinee Diouf, Honorine Uwera, Ataui Deng — the works. It was her training — ten years under the wing of Azzedine Alaia — that first brought the likes of Vogue's Grace Coddington, New York Times's Cathy Horyn, Lou Doillon, and Vogue Paris' Melanie Huynh out of the woodwork, but I bet as they left the Altman Building this morning, the model imagery was on their minds — it was on mine.

>> INSIDER WIRE Cathy Horyn, curmudgeon or awesome? The New York Times fashion critic showed up to Calvin Klein's 40th anniversary party last night — which had a cocktail attire code — wearing jean shorts. So far, she hasn't had any invites rescinded this season, so it looks like she's playing rebel in other ways . . . [FWD (hard copy)]

What's Zac Posen Doing with a Wind Machine?

Tue, 09/09/08 — 06:37:53 PM

>> It's weird having Marc Jacobs show in the middle of Fashion Week rather than at the very end like he used to — everything seems so anticlimactic from here on out.  This morning, backstage at Matthew Williamson, Coco Rocha disagreed: She's really excited about Zac Posen's show on Thursday, and thinks he's going to have some wind machine action on the runway — but she wouldn't elaborate further than that.  Definitely something to look out for, no?

>> THE MODELIZER —Those super vertiginous Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte heels can be treacherous, as Abbey Lee Kershaw learned earlier today. She looked a little wobbly all along the Rodarte Spring 2009 runway, but finally — in the style of Jessica Stam at Chloe a couple of years back — her ankles buckled, and she ate it, poor thing. The model behind her didn't give Abbey a second look, but it looks like someone in the front row gave her a hand. Abbey's runway tour and fall can be seen on video from approximately 6:00-7:00 minutes here. [Style File]

Marc Jacobs Wears Skirt, Shows Skirts for Spring 2009

Tue, 09/09/08 — 12:45:30 AM

>> For the second season in a row, Marc Jacobs started his show promptly, just ten minutes after its scheduled start — only this time, half the attendees weren't locked out — everyone had learned their lesson. "Ladies and gentlemen, please take your seats. The show is about to begin."

Through swinging mirror doors, the models walked the mirror-lined runway from every direction, funhouse illusions abounding. But show tactics aside, with Marc, it always comes down to the clothes — the mashed-up, layered, bangled clothes, sparkling, plaided, and sheened. As Gershwin played in the background, Marc took us in a whole new direction — and he did it while wearing a skirt.

>> INSIDER WIRE —You don't have to complain about the unattractive exchange rate anymore — in one place, at least. Topshop.com launched their US site today, which means no more paying in pounds to have that dress shipped from far, far away. And while you're there, don't forget to check out the new Kate Moss for Topshop stock that just arrived — there's a cool black fringe jacket, does it have your name all over it? [FabSugar UK, Topshop]
