The Shorts Erin Wasson Broke Her Foot For

Mon, 07/14/08 — 05:45:08 PM

>> Back in May, we first heard about Erin Wasson fracturing her foot while shooting a group of short films.

Finally, more details about the bone-crunching project with Justin Timberlake for his line William Rast have emerged.  The mini-documentaries are titled "My Name Is William Rast" and feature Justin as a "mysterious rebel" and Erin as Birdie, his love interest.

The two are on the run from what is implied to be the police, stopping intermittently for makeout sessions before running through the woods to escape gunshots (cue Erin's ill-fated running sequence).  The videos will debut on williamrastmovie.com later this month, when you can judge whether the project was worth a cast and crutches.

Stone-Cold Lara, Natasha Poly Come Clean for Jil Sander Fall 2008

Mon, 07/14/08 — 04:27:34 PM

>> All of you who give Lara Stone grief about flaunting her assets in editorials, these are for you.  No top shelf visible here: She's all buttoned up in tweedy sheaths and wooly funnel-necked dresses for the Fall 2008 Jil Sander campaign. Natasha Poly joins her in the Willy Vanderperre-lensed mood-fest, but it's Lara's emotive emergence from the shadows that really does it for me.

Irina Takes the Concert Arena

Mon, 07/14/08 — 01:03:13 PM

>>  Still no word on Irina Lazareanu's maybe or maybe not album, but she did join the British band Cazals on-stage at their live performance on June 29 in Paris.  Previous clips of her singing have been more folky — I guess that's Sean Lennon's influence for you — but this clip (first 1:30 of the video) makes Irina seem very much of the Pete Doherty school of rock.

I'm very grateful for my career, but I worry for the girls [of color] after me for the opportunities they get -- the way they get treated. And this is one of the reasons I still do what I do.

Chanel Movie Madness: Four Projects in the Works

Mon, 07/14/08 — 12:35:35 PM

>> Chanel is really looking to increase their profile through the movie route. Another film based on some portion of Coco Chanel's life has been announced: Chanel et Stravinsky, l'Histoire Secrete.

Last year, three films focusing on Coco Chanel were under wayCoco avant Chanel, starring Audrey Tautou as the designer before she became famous, is now currently filming; Director Daniele Thompson's Chanel biopic is still in the early stages, with a projected 2009 release date; and director William Friedkin's Coco & Igor, focusing on Chanel's love affair with Igor Stravinsky, is still in development.

Marina Hands has been lined up to play Coco opposite Mads Mikkelsen as Stravinsky in Coco & Igor; however, Friedkin is no longer listed as director — which brings us to the fourth, and newest, movie: Chanel et Stravinsky, l'Histoire Secrete. It, like Coco & Igor, is focusing on the relationship between Chanel and Stravinsky, and has Mads Mikkelsen playing the composer, but Anna Mouglalis is set to play Chanel, with Jan Kounen in the director's role. Are these two movies the same movie?  Or are two studios just planning to go head to head?

Regardless, Chanel the brand wins in the end with all the publicity. A company spokeswoman confirmed that the house will be opening its doors to Chanel et Stravinsky's costumer, who Karl Lagerfeld will also be meeting with in coming weeks. Plus, it's worth noting that two of the women cast as Chanel have close ties to the house: Audrey Tautou is a face of the brand, and Anna Mouglalis is a muse to Karl.
