Posts for April 2006

blown away.

>>  So usually I don't post before I have all the pictures, but I'm going to have to.  This editorial is AMAZING.  Another reason for me to love Miles Aldridge.  Called "A Flutter of Gauzy Fabrics," this shoot is with Marta Berzkalna and Querelle Jansen for Vogue Italia April 2006.  Yes, that's right, I like an edit with Querelle.  Her masculine features are usually not for me, but what can I say... times change.  People change.  You all know I love anything with an occult-like aura to it... so the spiderwebs, the library, the lighting... I'm gushing.  AMAZING.  I'll post the rest when I get them.

and the unnamed are revealed...

>>  A couple of days ago, Naomi Campbell was named as one of a group of models doing the Louis Vuitton fall ad campaign.  FWD finally reveals those who joined her: Daria Werbowy and Du Juan.  Not the two I expecting, for sure.  But it sounds more promising than I had hoped for... UPDATE:  Looks like Gemma isn't on the down and out quite yet, like it was starting to seem: she is the sole face of Valentino for the fall ad campaign, to be shot by Mert and Marcus.

what gives?

>>  So I was looking through the Free People catalogue I got yesterday, and this shirt caught my eye.  Puff sleeves are attracting me big time these days.  So I go onto their site today to check the shirt out again.  I don't even recognize it at first, it looks so different.  And not cute at all, might I add.  What a big disappointment.  Now I don't know which image to believe -- the pretty one, or the ugly one.  Oh, the power of lighting.  I don't think I'll end up getting the shirt -- if it looks that bad in regular light, things don't look very promising.

i know, i'm obsessed.

>>  With anything Roitfeldian.  I just discovered (slightly belatedly, sorry) that Maria Carla Boscono and Carine's son Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld are dating.  Did Julia Restoin Roitfeld and Stavros Niarchos used to date?  Hmm...

growing pains

>>  I didn't like her look at first, but Hilary Rhoda is really starting to grow on me.  Her strong features (the eyebrows!) are a nice contrast to the delicate dolls that we've all become so accustomed to seeing.  A couple of shots from April 2006 Dazed & Confused...

hot coco

>>  I am not sure about the cover for Vogue Italia April 2006.  I love it because it definitely elicits a strong response from people.  The model, Coco Rocha, is not made up to be beautiful in the classic sense of the word, and yet the cover beautiful because it's different.  Her open mouth combined with the pale pale skin is unnerving, but I kind of like it because of that.  I find it strange that they have her so bundled up for a spring cover, but I love the color palette used.  But keep this girl Coco in the back of your mind, I have a feeling you're going to be seeing a lot more of her -- she's rumored to be part of the upcoming Dolce & Gabbana and Balenciaga campaigns.

shockingly, even anna has her off days

>> From Bee Shaffer's latest column:  When I was 11 years old and my mother [Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of American Vogue] was getting ready for the [Costume Institute Ball at the Met] - which that year had a rock and roll theme - she had a Christian Dior haute couture embroidered fur gilet to wear over her dress.

When I was 11 years old and my mother [Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of American Vogue] was getting ready for the [Costume Institute Ball at the Met] - which that year had a rock and roll theme - she had a Christian Dior haute couture embroidered fur gilet to wear over her dress. Ten minutes before she was due to leave, she put the gilet on, but couldn't close it. Half an hour later, and after her editor-at-large, André Leon Talley, and her hair stylist and her make-up artist had all tried, I gave it a go - and was, of course, able to do it up after one attempt.

That said, I kind of think the off day started when Anna decided to wear an embroidered fur gilet.

au naturel

   >> Isabelle Azaïs, she makes beautiful innovative jewelry.  And I mean truly innovative -- her sand necklaces are made to look like the ribbing of sand as the tide goes out, her chokers are made of leather discs piled one on top of the other.  Each piece is handmade and unique, and very reasonably priced.  PS.  Her site is in French, but more information on Isabelle and the rest of her collection in English is here.

muahahaha

>> I know you're not supposed to gloat on other people's losses, but I just can't help smiling at this piece of news.  Elle Girl will cease publication as a magazine after its June/July issue, and instead will remain as a redesigned and expanded Ellegirl.com.  Never was an Elle Girl fan... Teen Vogue is so much better.  Not that I'm reading teen magazines or anything...

supes and salad

>>  A pair that goes together quite nicely, don't you think?  Apparently supes and Louis Vuitton also go quite nicely together.  That's right, WWD is reporting that Naomi Campbell and several other (unnamed) supermodels will star in the fall Vuitton ad campaign, which is being photographed today at Pier 59 by Mert and Marcus.

Anything over Lindsay Lohan, right?

In other supe news... Kate Moss just proves the fact that no press is bad press.  She officially signed a new £500,000 deal to advertise Calvin Klein jeans yesterday, going back to the label that launched her career.
