>> A Louis Vuitton ad is a Louis Vuitton ad: big name model (or actress), saturated color, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott involved . . . but I would have never placed Queens as the brand's choice campaign background.  And yet, here it is — Eva Herzigova holding her LV handbags high, sticking her LV monogrammed leg out, all with the Unisphere in the background.

Versace

>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —When it pours, it really pours.  Another first look among the deluge of Fall 2008 ads popping up today:  Isabeli Fontana for Versace, sans her campaign partner Natalia Vodianova.  This first shot is very Testino-blah indeed, and interestingly, still flashing those suspiciously Louboutin-like red soles just like last season.

Hermes

>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL — In a time when everyone seems to be focused on black and white, let's take a moment for Lakshmi Menon.  The Bangalorean model appeared in the beautiful Spring 2008 Hermes ads, opened the Givenchy couture show yesterday, and is appearing in the Fall 2008 Givenchy campaign along with Kirsten Owen, Natasha Poly, and Givenchy faves Lara Stone and Mariacarla Boscono.

Kate Moss

>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —For at least five seasons now, Kate Moss has been Longchamp's go-to girl for upping their luxury status.

Kate Moss

>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —Kate Moss may have been "downgraded" from Roberto Cavalli's mainline ads to fronting his Just Cavalli line for Fall, but after the first two images from the new set have appeared, I would argue that Kate almost fits in better with the diffusion line's rocker feel than the overly-tanned, animal print-laden ads of Roberto Cavalli's senior line.

Vera Wang

>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —Stella Tennant is back, and sure to thrill, in Vera Wang's Fall 2008 campaign.  Shot by Steven Meisel in an Upper East Side apartment, this first preview is appropriately decadent, just like Vera likes it.

Philip Crangi's massive rhinestone jewelry made this collection for me; It's good to see it well on display. [WWD]

Burberry

Christopher Bailey Takes Burberry to a Melancholy Place for Fall

>> Christopher Bailey has been staunchly loyal to Burberry's British roots, casting Brit-born models, singers, and actors in the label's recent ad campaigns.

>> Christopher Bailey has been staunchly loyal to Burberry's British roots, casting Brit-born models, singers, and actors in the label's recent ad campaigns. The Fall 2008 duo is no exception. Blue-blooded, Devon-born model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Leeds-bred actor Sam Riley combine for a moody, black-and-white set of Mario Testino-helmed photos, shot in London's Kensington Gardens.

Meanwhile, the much-publicized rumors about a "riff" between Burberry and Agyness Deyn have been put to rest — the model will be featured in Burberry's Fall 2008 fragrance ads for The Beat — and Bailey himself asserted, "Agyness is a huge part of the Burberry family and a personal friend."  Just to put the nail on the rumor's coffin, Agyness showed up wearing a Burberry dress to Elton John's White Tie and Tiara Ball yesterday.

Balenciaga

Charlotte Gainsbourg Stiffed by Balenciaga

>> Balenciaga campaigns are never my favorite, but as more, bigger pictures from the Fall 2008 set with Charlotte Gainsbourg appear, I'm left with a more disappointed feeling than usual.
>> Balenciaga campaigns are never my favorite, but as more, bigger pictures from the Fall 2008 set with Charlotte Gainsbourg appear, I'm left with a more disappointed feeling than usual.

According to Nicholas Ghesquiere, the goal was to have Charlotte embody the "more mature" collection with a severe chignon, arch makeup, and angular couture poses, directly contrasting with her everyday laidback appeal.

In between point A and point B, however, the essence of Charlotte has been lost — I can't even see her in these pictures. I know that Nicholas has been playing the idea with stiff women robots for some seasons now (those Spring 2007 Tron-inspired leggings, the stances in Jennifer Connelly's ads), but this time, it's not a good representation of the collection, which albeit hard-edged, has an undeniably sexy facet to it.
