In talking to Tavi Gevinson, it's clear to me that she is much more put together than I was at 19. She is the editor in chief of her own magazine, Rookie. She sits front row at major runway shows like Dior and Rodarte. And this Summer, she'll be gracing magazines as an ambassador for Clinique's new millennial beauty campaign (#LifeGoals). The new #FaceForward initiative features youthful influencers like Tavi, Hannah Bronfman, and Margaret Zhang to repromote the brand's classic three-step regimen. The trio represents the diverse and driven face of the next generation as well as the future of beauty.

"This campaign is about being optimistic for the future, and I relate to that because a lot has happened in my life very quickly," Tavi said in our recent interview. Of course, she's referring to the fact that she was considered a fashion darling as a preteen and starred on Broadway at just 18 years old. Now, she is living a much more relaxed life in NYC — one where she shops at Sephora and works from bed. Recently, I had the chance to talk to the It girl about her daily makeup regimen, her current fashion obsession, and more. My one conclusion: Tavi is way cooler than I will ever be, and here are seven solid reasons why.

She is the definition of a fashion girl.

"I've always liked feeling like a fashion girl because it's about being on the creative side and wearing attention-grabbing things. It just makes me confident in experimenting because I feel like I'm messing around with a project instead of trying to look the 'right' way."

"I bought a beige romper, which is kind of like what Cate Blanchett wears in Life Aquatic. I was like, 'God, I'm really getting older! I'm 19!' I love how simple she is — that sounds like an insult — but I mean I just like how clean she keeps it, yet she's still sort of risk-taking. I also love people of the past. I look at David Bowie a lot lately. Not like theatrical, glittery David Bowie but like androgynous, white-suit Bowie. Maybe that's like an edgier version of whatever I find so appealing about Cate Blanchett."

"In the shower, I use the facial soap and some acne cleanser stuff. I'll use the toner and the yellow lotion and keep it in my bag throughout the day to moisturize."

She's into that whole no-makeup thing.

"I usually keep it pretty simple — tinted sunscreen and sometimes I sharpen my brow. I make sure I have an eyelash curler, Clinique mascara ($17), and the Chubby Sticks ($17) for lips because you can touch up without a mirror, which is great."

"I love the pace of it, and there are always people around. For me, that's very grounding. You start to worry about something, then you look up and [realize], 'No, things keep moving. People don't care, people have their own lives.'"

"I'm currently obsessed with these Carven sneakers ($390) that I bought that are gray velcro and have purple flowers on them."

She was wearing gray hair before it was considered cool.

"I did it years ago, and people at my school thought I had an aging disease, which I just thought was hilarious. I like style choices that challenge people. When I look back at stuff I wore or my gray hair, it doesn't feel like me now, but I had so much fun. And it was such an exercise in confidence to have to go to school like that or have to go to a fashion event like that."
