In 2001, long before her husband quit smoking and she vowed never to use cigarettes as props in her editorials, Roitfeld said she loved the smell of tobacco. "My father smokes, my husband smokes, and I always seem to be floating around in a cloud of cigarette smoke," she told Talk Magazine. "Not that that bothers me, as I must say there's nothing sexier than the smell of tobacco on a man's fingers."

Roitfeld's signature smoky eye might also be a clue — wood smoke has been used as an ingredient in fragrances before.
