Ruth Finley — legendary creator of The Fashion Calendar — was sitting next to 95-year-old Fashion Week fixture Zelda Kaplan in the front row of Joanna Mastroianni's Fall 2012 show when Kaplan "flopped over in my lap," Finley told The New York Times. "I thought she fainted."

Security guards took Kaplan aside to a private area where they gave her CPR and then called for an ambulance. Kaplan was pronounced dead at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital hospital later that evening

For her part, Mastroianni didn't find out about Kaplan collapsing or dying until after her team had packed up backstage. "It was quite a shock," the designer said. "But I have to tell you, if a fashion girl ever decides to go, this is the way to go."
