A few weeks before Diane von Furstenberg was set to show her Fall 2011 collection, she went on what she thought would be a relaxing ski vacation in Aspen — and then a Brazilian man slid into her and broke her face.

"I look like Mike Tyson on his worst fight," she wrote in an email to WWD about the incident. "Broken nose and some light facial fractures. At home in L.A. now waiting to heal. Will be staying here the week because I have my children and grandkids. I guess it could have been worse . . . but it does NOT look pretty."

The designer made it back to New York in time for her show, but wore a pair of aviator sunglasses while speaking to the press. Some suggested the accident and subsequent hospitalization were a coverup for plastic surgery, but von Furstenberg roundly denied that idea. "I don't want anybody else's face. I don't want a younger face," she told The New York Daily News. "I just want my old face back."
