Who could forget the war of words Oscar de la Renta and Hedi Slimane waged with The New York Times' fashion critic Cathy Horyn this season? De la Renta took out a full-page ad in WWD to respond to Horyn calling him a "hot dog" in her review of his collection. Horyn later explained to us that she "used the term in a professional context, as someone showing off his tricks, like a surfer."
As if that weren't enough, in her review of Slimane's Saint Laurent debut, Horyn pointed out that she wasn't invited because she believed Slimane held a grudge against her. The designer then replied with an open letter he posted to Twitter, in which he called Horyn "a schoolyard bully and a little bit of a comedian." After she called the spat "silly nonsense," Slimane got back on Twitter and voiced his surprise that Horyn "is still singing her tired bias tune" for the Times. Ouch.
