>> Following Monday's "Fashion Talks" discussion at the French Institute Alliance Francaise, the Wall Street Journal approached Marc Jacobs to get his thoughts on the recent controversy surrounding Terry Richardson's work habits, which Terry himself addressed over the weekend.
When asked whether sexy photoshoots with young models should be more closely monitored by the industry, Jacobs replied: “I’ve worked with Terry and Terry has asked me to do some crazy things. I know that those pictures will exist if I do them. But I’m a big boy and I can say no.”
He said that he hadn't heard about the controversy, adding that Richardson is “not ill-spirited.” Then, Jacobs went further to say about the industry in general: “If a girl is underage, maybe the girl’s agent or chaperone should be present on the shoot. That’s the hard part. Who’s to blame or who’s to watch?”

"Who's to blame?, who's to blame?, who's to blame?"
YOU ARE
I'm so sick of these perverse assholes passing the buck.
We're talking about LITTLE GIRLS. Sick people.
hmmhmm calm down!!! agreed with Marc these youg girl should always
have their agent/Chaperone or at least an adult with them while doing
those photoshoots. He really has a good point.
The whole fashion industry is to blame from Tom Ford to Carine roitfeld.
Also Where are their parents and agents when we need them????
so what, if a child wanders out of their house and gets kidnapped its the parent's fault? What a lame argument.
yes everyone in the situation has freedom of choice, but whie the model's choice to not obey the photographer carries real and potentially damaging consequences, tto her career, her reputation etc... the photographers choice to make inappropriate demends and requests carries absolutely no consequences whatsoever. You can say "oh we're all adults here' but that does NOT make it an even playing field when the adults calling the hots enjoy much greater social status and influence then the other adults in the room,. Adults are still vulnerable to manipulation and exploitation. In fashion, in hollywoodin third world brothels and sweat shops. Just because the victims are legal adults does not mean that they are invulnerable superwomen capable of defending their honor without risk or consequence in any sleazy situation. And just because their wasn't a chaperone around to stop things doesn't mean the aggresors are innocent
Gemma Ward's mother accompanied her on her shoots, so Marc Jacobs is making a great point. I happen to find his response both politically correct and logical.
Terry Richardson's talent has been rightly recognized and lauded. His character and morality is a totally different issue and fashion magazines and designers are in a difficult position because he works for them. Models who have come forth with allegations need to take more responsibility for their own actions and work; learn to say no.
Yes Marc, you are a big boy. A big and EMPOWERED boy who can tell even the likes of Terry Richardson to go shove it if he puts you in a compromising position. Hmmm... doesn't quite equate to a young girl trying to get a foothold in the industry, now does it?
There is a reason there are sexual harassment laws...
