There's borrowing from the boys, and then there's beating them at their own game. Haider Ackermann's Spring 2014 collection took this designer's signature flair for masculine tailoring to new heights, blending key menswear pieces like the blazer, the tuxedo jacket, and the sport shirt with a feminine sensibility almost seamlessly.
How did Ackermann do it? Materials. He usually uses fabrics with sheen, but his commitment to making women glitter takes on a new importance in a season when many of his colleagues have given lamé and shiny jacquard starring roles in their collections. But more importantly, that shine helps bridge the gap between masculine and feminine, making it easier for a shimmering tuxedo jacket and wide-legged trousers to work together.
