Lagerfeld presented his resort collection for Chanel in Miami yesterday. He said of the season, "It's all about proportions, cuts, and volumes. There is not one line that is taken all through the collection. For cruise, you don't do that."

Jonathan Saunders has been hired as the creative director of Pollini. His first collection for the label will be this Spring 09. Saunders, apparently, has a few formulaic things going for him. Namely, his background at Central St. Martins and his being young and British (think Christopher Bailey at Burberry, Matthew Williamson at Pucci) seem to land designers the gig these days.
Department stores report losses after first quarter financial results come in. Macy's, Kohl's, Nordstrom, and JC Penney all took a significant downturn this quarter. Gas prices hit an all time high this week and overall, the heads of these stores think that consumers are finally beginning to react to the recession.
