There's a distinctly Southwestern flair in Scott Sternberg's Pre-Fall 2013 collection for Band of Outsiders. It makes sense: the designer credited a trip to The Lightning Field, artist Walter De Maria's installation of some 400 lightning rods in the desert of western New Mexico, as what inspired the offering.

The feeling shines through in a number of the collection's dresses and shirts, which feature prints that call to mind Aztec motifs and Navajo blankets. Sternberg even worked a new geometry into one of his bandage skirts, coloring the layers so that they looked like steps.

From there the collection touched two other points of interest for Sternberg: suits paired with shirts were layered over sweaters with a BOY monogram in a nod to his preppy underpinnings, while a series of all-black looks (two of which featured bandage tops) veered off toward eveningwear.
