Ann Demeulemeester Runway Review | Fashion Week Fall 2013
Ann Demeulemeester Fall 2013
There are lots of gray areas in the tension between menswear and womenswear, and for Fall 2013, Ann Demeulemeester explored that tension using only black and white fabrics.
See Demeulemeester's full Fall 2013 collection here.
Her Fall 2013 men's offering, presented just over a month ago, was also black and white, and all the models in that show wore bowler hats and oversize, sometimes dress-like garments that blurred the line between the sexes. The women's looks presented on Thursday in an old bank in Paris were paired with similar hats, but these were pierced with the quills of metal feathers.
The clothes themselves were loose, fluid, and androgynous. The first look that came down was a white floor-length smock with drawstrings dangling from the waist, followed by a generous white coat over a shirt long enough to qualify as a dress and a pair of wide-leg trousers. These shapes reappeared throughout the collection, which culminated with a few looks that featured thick bands of leather worn as belts or, in one case, a strapless top.
