>> The Daily Mail is reporting that Alexander McQueen has committed suicide at 40 in his apartment in Green Park, central London. A source at McQueen’s office confirmed his death, saying: ‘It is a tragic loss. We are not making a comment at this time out of respect for the McQueen family.' McQueen's death comes days after his mother passed away.
UPDATE #1: The McQ presentation that was to take place in New York today has been canceled.
UPDATE #2: WWD cites sources describing McQueen's death as suicide by hanging; the designer was found this morning and London police are not treating the death as suspicious. He is survived by his father and five sisters and no funeral details have been made available.
McQueen's mother, Joyce, with whom he was close, passed away on Feb. 2, and her funeral had been scheduled for Friday, according to a McQueen spokesman.
As for how McQueen the company will move forward without the designer, a Gucci Group spokeswoman said that no business-oriented statements are currently being made.

OMG.
tragic loss.
RIP.
This is such terrible news. I can't help but be curious though why he was not in New York? Wouldn't he have been attending his McQ show in person?
Its so sad...he was such an amazing designer/artist. The fashion world will definitely miss him and his artistry.
He was someone who I felt truly put his heart and soul into every collection. He left much much too soon. A genius.
I went back through his archived runway shows and was so inspired!
Did a post with images of his work as far back as Spring 2005.
RIP ALEXANDER MC QUEEN
