>> New York Fashion Week is a little more than a week away, and the tidbits are flowing freely — a compilation of the highlights from the past few days:

Launches

  • Marchesa is launching its first accessories — 28 clutches and evening bags (above); They will retail $995 to $5,000 and are made to coordinate with the mainline dresses. [WWD]

Presentations

  • After showing by appointment last season, Peter Som is staging his first presentation ever. The Spring 2010 collection is a little larger than last season, is reminiscent of "summer days at the beach," and will likely have lots of print and color — "happy clothes," as Som says. [The Cut]
  • Vera Wang was hoping to return to the Tents this season, but by the time she made the decision at the end of July, a spokesperson says, "There was no availability that would work for us.”  She expects to be in the Tents next season. [WWD]

Inspirations

  • Alexander Wang cites the word "perv" as inspiration for Spring 2010; Rodarte expects to be "singed" [The Cut]
  • Narciso Rodriguez was "greatly influenced by the sculpture of Barbara Hepworth. The three dimensional and graphic shapes that are her work became a constant source of inspiration." [FWD]
  • Ruffian, looking to Picasso for Spring 2010, are splashing a cubist nude torso print on tops and dresses — Style File has a peek [Style File]
  • Bensoni is doing denim, a digital print of crushed soda cans on silk, and pop art; the collection is called "Americon," after "America" and "Icon" [FWD]

Faces to Know

  • Refinery29 counts down its top six Fashion Week style documenters (think Craig Arend of Altamira, Garance Dore, Tommy Ton of Jak & Jil) outside of The Sartorialist. [Refinery29]
  • A compilation of soon-to-be front-rowers (think Tavi, Coco Sumner, Becka Diamond, and Aurel Schmidt) [Style.com]
